................. Also the place i took it to cleans the rest of the head when they skim it :).
Now that does seem like a good move, if anything was worthwhile doing.

Shiny is good. We like shiny.

Now then!

head is off!

a few things of interest:

The cylinders have indentations on the top which exactly mark the shape of the valves!?

i am thinking this is not good, does this mean at some point the valves have contacted the cylinders with considerable force!?

Also a bit of a mark (indentation) on cylinder 1

Gasket looks like it was def leaking into no.q, looks like corrosion as it is pretty manky all the way round, even around some of the other cylinders. I would probably guess there has been lack of any inhibitor in the water. The water that came out was a brown rusty mess btw.

Now a matter of cleaning it and trying to put it back together i guess!

hehe, will teach you to read posts properly :p

I also spent around 4hours cleaning the block, and tops of the pistons. I used to think piston were flat, when i saw the marks on top near where the valves would be - it scared the poo outta me

they're perfectly normal :)

wanna compare inside engine shots? hehe, mine looked like this:

http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~delta666/cinq/inside_engine/

the marking on no1 might just be marking in the carbon deposits on top of the piston. if they're actually indented into the top of the piston then thats not so good. would suggest some random metal has being flailing round in there..

Cheers, good pictures!. Your pistons all look very black?! Glad to know is nothing serious, looking more closely those marks do look machined.

I am not looking forward to cleaning mine up tomorrow, my head gasket was completely buggered and parts of it remain on the head and block. Looks like it will be a painstakingly slow process, as i dont want to get crap in the cylinders or waterways.

That thing on no.1 is def a small hole, looks like something has been in their! just hope it has long gone!

yeah, i ran my car a while with the headgasket gone whilst i tried to figure out what was up. I didnt want it to be the headgasket! It was over-fueling most of the time, hence the carbon build up.

To clean the pistons up, use pan scouring pads and neat injector cleaner.

Head and block now cleaned up. a few imperfections (i think maybe corrosion) around the waterways of cylinder 1 on the head

Just hope the new gasket seals it and i hope it wont lead to failure in the future.

am gonna try and put the thing back to together now!

btw cleaning is a real pain

You don't hav to clean up the pistons tbh, it does not really matter. If anything it would raise the compression ratio slighty and make it faster. It will only get dirty again.

The marks on the tops of the pistons are meant to be there, this is so that the piston does not make contact with the valves when the piston is at the very top of the chamber and the valves are open.

my head has gone, it is the head gasket burnt through and also the cylinder head, i was just starting my car in the morning and it went and sounded like a steam engine but would not idle...it is now ****ed and i will need another head but i thought that this was not as common as it seems to be
