Hi All

I managed to get the Haynes Manual for Panda, and it is a good book to have I feel. But I also agree with some of the negative reviews on the manual.
The points I find problematic off hand are,

1. The manual covers other various models of Fiat cars such as 500, and diesel engine models, so it is confusing sometimes, what model of Panda I am reading about.
And I must keep searching for the right model as my car in the manual, and having to keep checking whether it is for my car is timing consuming and cumbersome. OK, they are very similar, but also different if you try to work on it and look for the right instructions and location of the parts.

2. Photos in the manual are very small, dark and too confined, hence it is difficult to know where in the car it is actually the photos are showing, and how to actually do things - because it is merely saying unplug, undo with very poor quality photos which are also in small size.

These are 2 main problems I have with the manual initially, but I still think it is better than nothing. And there are lot of helpful information and knowledge on how to DIY in this manual.

I was looking at the part where it talks about the Oxygen sensors, and thats where I was confused what model of the car it was talking about. I kept reading about it, and looked into the photos, and it didn't sound right, and then realised it was Diesel model the manual was talking about.

I moved to the petrol section, and again there are two different petrol model car it talks about one is pre 07/06 models and the other is after 07/06 models.

Mine is 2010 registered Panda Eco Active 1.1, and I used to think it is the After 07/06 model, but in the manual, actually my Panda seems pre 07/06 model. Confusion again.

And my question on my EML is showing 2 codes which is one for o2 sensor 1 in bank 1, and o2 sensor 2 in bank 1. So both are in bank 1, but why 2x sensors both gone wrong? Is it just co incidents or could indicate something else?

bank 1 sensor 1 pre CAT (upsteream)
bank 1 sensor 2 post CAT (downstream)

bank 2 is for V configuration engines such as a V8

I have located the sensors, and pressed the wire connections in firmly, so if there were any short, it will reconnect. And then cleaned throttle control unit with STP carb cleaner throughly, because it looked dirty. Then wiped it dry with paper towel, and cleared the EML code with JDiag OBD reader.

Well that was this lunch time.

This evening I started the car, and the EML has disappeared. The car drove solidly.

Will have to see again tomorrow, if EML will return or not. Will update how it went.

But that's about 6-7 hours after the EML cleared by the OBD reader. Usually it used to come back on in 10 minutes with nothing done to the problems.

Hope it did the tricks. If not, well will keep on going troubleshooting.:)

This morning, started the car, and the EML returned. Back to square one.

Will need to jack up the car, and unscrew the sensors, and then measure the continuity.

Yesterday, wind was still very strong, and I had no time to take out the car ramps.

O2 sensors are one of those things that when they start to play up, they may as well be changed. They might be ok but 90% of the time will neverbe doing the job properly.

Confirming the connector is not faulty has to be done (as a new sensor will not fix the fault) but after that bite the bullet and replace.

no need to unscrew the sensors

unplug one sensor at a time. Its easy to mix up the wires as both sensors are identical then, measure the continuity from inside the plug of two white wires.

It would be unusual for both to go. I have 6 working sensors. Four in cars and two salvaged from an old CAT with close to 1/2 million miles between them.

any chance of a photo or diagram showing locations of o2 sensors?
I too have a haynes manual and no idea where to look
I have a 1.2 eleganza

Could this be related to the 1.1 ECU connection block problem? Strap ECU the connector in tight with zip ties and consider reinforcing the wire bundle between scuttle and ECU.

It.s an issue specific to the 1.1 where vibration upsets the cable connector.
