I have a JTD 1.9 Marea weekend. It has been ib the garage six times since June with the fanbelt breaking. It had the same prob 2 yrears ago and was fixed (for two years anyway following the replacement of one of the pullies and the tensioner. This time I am being told all sorts of things like it was the alternator bearings etc but each time they change something it breaks after about one weeks driving. I am being charged by the garage each time even though I am kicking up a stink. Ant advice?

Small claims court, you can download the forms on line and it's really easy to do. I got my money back from vodafone that way when they ignored everything else. They have not found the root cause, its a damged pulley or out of alignment or maybe a worn bearing somewhere.

make sure they change main bottom pulley and aux belt tensioner.not heard of any other reason for breaking belts.
tell them about trading standards, and suggest they fix it as a goodwill job, that might do the job.
by the way is it the same garage that fixed it 2yrs ago,if so they should know.

Since every time the Cam belt breaks you stand a good chance of mashing the valves I would suggest that we are 99% probably talking about the auxilary belt here.

if the aux belt is being is running off by that I mean the edge of the belt starts to get chewed off it is a good chance the belt tensioner needs renewing my local garage put two on and couldnt fathom it out everything looked in line then he took the belt tensioner off and tried to take the bolt out of it and it snapped so I had to have a new one and hey presto the belt was champion after that

hi guys,

mine also having some problem with the aux belt. but it is not breaking. the problem is noisy due to the belt keeps flapping up and down during idling. if the air con is off, less vibration. i can see the aux tensioner vibrating badly during idling. if i took out the aux belt and let the engine idling. so smooth and quiet. if the engine speed just above 900rpm, the noise gone.

i change the belt tensioner, 2 different belts (Dayco 6PK1842, Gates 6PK1840) but no help. original size is 6PK1836 which can't get from aftermarket parts. my alternator bearing is ok and same for the air con compressor. my main pulley also in good condition.

it is must use the ORIGINAL fiat belts? anyone using other than fiat original belts which is 6PK1836?

thank you.

guys,

finally, today i went to fiat dealer to get an ORIGINAL aux belt. they are having sales this week. so it is a good timing.

the original aux belt is indeed 6PK1836. the guy almost gave me 6pk1830 which is 6mm shorter for TD engine and not JTD. luckily, i know about it and he search the stock.

after putting in, the noise totally disappear. belt is running very smooth and less vibration during idling. i wonder Fiat engineer really make their design so unique with just the right amount of tension.

i hope it will remain the same for years... this is my 3rd aux belt after trying around with aftermarket brand.

Just replaced my aux belt. 6PK1835 is the correct length. Shop4Parts have them (Dayco brand), listed under the Multipla section, but its the right one for Marea JTD.
About £11 ISTR.

hi jtdsteve,

on 11 pounds! that means about RM66 over here. i bought it double the price. no wonder fiat cars is too expensive to maintain in malaysia. sales drops like not even a new car registered in a mth. (n)

something wrong with our local dealer on parts pricing.

yeah...all fiat model share same JTD engine. the real size is 6PK1836 from fiat. Dayco specially make for it.

so hope it solve your problem....
