I haven't used my 2000 JTD105 for about the last 3 months, (been car sharing with my daughter) but the other day I took it for a spin. I got a whiff of coolant, but naively, I thought it could've been because it had been stood so long. The car ran great & everything seemed fine - gauges ok etc. Last night I went to fetch something from the car & there it was...the dreaded pool of coolant in the footwell (mainly the passenger side) the expansion tank drained, as to be expected. HEATER MATRIX goosed I presume?
I can't afford to pay a mechanic at the moment, so I was thinking of removing the dash & what have you to expose & remove the matrix myself. Has anyone ever done this? If so, are there any major difficulties I may encounter? I'm reasonably capable mechanically, but I'm a bit concerned with the air bags (don't want to accidentally deploy them!) The car's been stood through some pretty cold weather, someone told me that the anti freeze concentration may not have been strong enough, & that I could have a burst due to freezing, I'm not sure if this is the case, but I'll find out when I uncover the scene of the crime
