handbrake light come on when cornering!!

went round a few corner today at about 40 mph and they were quite sharp ones was just testin how much grip i had before it slid lol and then i noticed the hand brake light came on for the duration of th cornering whats that about?

Could be a problem with the sensor under the console for the handbrake, or maybe a short of the wires behind the dash. Assuming that no other lights come on or anything like that then its unlikely to be a problem anywhere else.

d'you know it's been so long since i sent Sooty off to the shop i've forgotten whether the handbrake warning light is distinct from the brake warning light.

Handbrake light has an "!" the brake warning light doesn't.

ah right so that means that it can't be the brake fluid level then...?

If the brake fluid level is low the handbrake light will come on! I know this from experience, when my clutch slave cylinder was leaking!

Could be or jsut could be a loose connection on the reservoir cap. Mine does this every now and again and rescuring the connection makes it go away.

i have got the same problem i recently got my mot done on the car and i was told that there was damage to some cabling underneath the car. the cabling was part of the brake system. Although i did not ask whether it could of caused my hand brake light to switch on when turning.

low brake fluid is indicated by the handbrake light. You say it only comes on when cornering? this indicates low fluid. anyway, do no harm to check. If its low, check that you have no leaks in the brake pipes ore cluch slave cylinder
