Hi,

just spent and hour trying to google an answer, and well, hello!

I'm ordering a new clutch slave cylinder. Everywhere but Halfords says it's part number LUK512004510. Halfords says LUK Clutch Slave Cylinder 137580200. It's using my number plate to tell me it's right, but idk. Halfords is the cheapest.

Has anyone used this part/can confirm its the right one? This whole thing is scary tbh.

Thankyou.

Hi going by the picture looks exactly the same! Can i ask if you have you entered your reg mark into there system? if it lets you order it then its confirming its for your vehicle !-once you have gone through that process you will have an electronic receipt so if you was to get it home and compare it with your original and it was wrong they cant argue about a refund!
Also can i suggest you read some of the previous posts regarding changing the part as its best to not disturb the so called "quick release fitting" far better to fit the new cylinder onto the original pipe and then fully blead the system!

Hi, thankyou. I did enter my reg, which is what confused me about the number being different. Also, it tells me the oil I added isn't right for my car, but it is, so I'm suss. I will order and screenshot, so if it's wrong I can get a refund.

I've watched a couple of vids, and thankyou for the tip. I'm defo leaving the old pipe thing on! Hopefully it comes apart easily.

Both those numbers seem to be LUK's own product codes.

They appear to be the same part, I think either one will be fine.

Some manufacturers seem to prefer their own numbers in place of the OEM part number. For reasons. I don't know why they'd need two. Presumably some manufacturing change.

The FIAT part number is 55183387

oh gawd, your reply came just as I was getting a verification code for checkout, and now I'm wondering if it was the universe trying to stop me. Well. I'm doing it anyway. I will see what the box says, and maybe post a pic before I operate on bubbles.

Thankyou.

I think it's cool. 137580200 seems to be a part number for this item when it's made by Schaeffler, who I think is a Luk subsidiary.

Schaeffler lists about 5 different numbers for 55183387.. so there's probably someone there who has a fetish for re-categorizing the inventory every so often. 😅

LUK seem to sell in various packs. Some have a bare slave, some come with pipe attached to reach the coupling, some have reservoir and a whole new pipe (but no new join) and are prefilled. Go for the first one and save money. This may explain part no variations and costs. The reservoir is fragile too so treat it very gently. It will most likely need cleaning out before fitting the new parts.

I agree dont mess with pipe join under the battery area. You may need to swap the pushrod rubber end from ood cylinder to the new one

Sorry for any confusion, I wasn't very clear.
I'm sure you've ordered the correct part :)

Oooooh I'm excited which one this is, I will post a pic when I get it, incase anyone else has this question down the line.

Thankyou!

So cool story, just got back from Halfords. Left the slave cylinder and got a refund, as even tho it matches, someone had clearly had it before, and returned it. The hard pipe bit that I'm meant to take off was all scratched and gouged down, and there was gunk over it, and on the outside, where the pistony bit is. He said it comes from eurocar parts, not Halfords.

I feel like it's the universe saying noooooo. Either don't do it, don't do it atm, or it's not what's wrong. I WILL reorder one, but I'm gonna have a look first, and grease the moving pistony bit, and see what happens. Also see how badly it is corroded or whatever. Someone mentioned silicone spray, I forgot it at Halfords, but I think dad had some on his shelf of mystery in the garage.

So atleast we know it is the right part.

Blinking annoying when a big well known retailer like Halfords take the P**s and try to pass off previously abused parts to genuine customers I hope you expressed your displeasure at the time wasted due to there poor working practices.
Id be tempted to ring the store and ask to speak to the manager and try to get a little compensation for the hassle! might get a voucher or something? if they fob you off just mention your gonna leave them a 💩 review!.

These slaves are a pain and not long lasting. I have two that will need doing before long. Having done the job before I would buy a slave with no pipes. THe pipes are noy high pressure like brakes and are sealed with O rings. You just lever the spring retaining clip up and out, pull the pipe out and reverse the process to replace. I used Motor Parts Direct as they had one on the shelf but is was not the cheapest supplier. Shop4parts are bomb proof for top quality service and warranty and I would recommend. The new LUK slave I bought was a steel one so should not suffer with the squeaking.

ooooh, ok. Thankyou. Honestly the service was terrible, but the guy was really stressed. They didn't have trolleys, and I use a stick as disabled. He wouldn't help me carry the car lifting set out to the car, luckily a customer helped. It was a really bad experience. Took him 15 mins to find my order, then another 10-15 to refund. I mentioned a few times that the part was used, and he kept saying it's not halfords fault, as the part comes from europarts. I said I don't want to reorder and get the same dodgy one, and he kept saying not their fault. I gave up. I don't want to get him in truoble, as even tho he was rude and rubbish, he might've just been having a bad day. It's still the cheapest place tho.

oooooh, ok. Ty. I will look into it. Now I've calmed down I'm thinking how dumb it'd be to take the battery out and not change the slave, especially as they're a common issue. I was just super stressed by the whole thing yesterday, and the evils from the people in the queue behind me. Then the groans when I couldn't lift the massive box with the car lifting set. Gawd.

Well done for checking the part first and refusing it.
There's this part on eBay for £22 that comes without pipes (which you don't need), Borg & Beck is a big name brand, if anyone knows anything about the quality?
As Panda Nut says there are metal alternatives, which I'd be tempted to fit if replacing, I think @DaveMcT fitted one?

Apparently the clutch slave is quite easy to service by separating, cleaning and reassembling with red rubber grease, but I don't know if there's a guide anywhere?

oooh, tysm. On impulse I reordered from halfords, but I can always say I don't want it. Especially if you all think a metal one is a better idea? As long as it isn't crazy expensive.

So I'm now having a new breakdown. Just took some pics of under the back of the car. Omg. I will start a new thread and tag you, so we can cry about rust together. Wah. 😭

There is some other stuff I need advice on too down the line. Honestly you, and everyone here is truly amazing. Ty.

Ok, so I just got a text from Halfords saying it's ready, even tho it said would be Monday when I ordered, so I'm 100% they are giving me the manky one back. They have em in stock in the city, but I'm too scared of the clutch, as it's loads of roundabouts and lights to get there.

I'm annoyed, and I haven't even gone to look yet. This is clearly the universe saying no to Halfords lol.
