Manta Mirage
Just a minute, what's this Vauxhall Manta business then? That was the Cavalier Coupe. Stewards' Enquiry! All this racking my brains and raking my memory..... for an Opel?

Oh the sleepless nights, the wasted years, the grey hair, the wrinkles, the stress, the nervous breakdowns,............................waffle, waffle, waffle.........................the alcoholism, the drug addiction, slumped on a bench in an old raincoat snuggling up to a bottle of White Lightning..............

Give that man a coconut!
Thebeard it's only a game show ;)

Your turn Galahad!
That's easy for you to say. I'm already halfway through a life sized model of an Opel Manta B in the kitchen made out of chicken wire and mud. I'm not sure what it really means but I saw it in a vision and I have an overwhelming belief that hundreds of people will flock to it in the hope of seeing some kind of extra-terrestrial life form.

Mrs. Beard says she's leaving me. In fact she's loading as many of her personal belongings as she can into the Giulietta and walking out of the front door. She's offered the dog the option of going with her or staying.....no, she's going as well.

You've ruined my life. I've become totally obsessed with this mythical car that has a name shared with a Vauxhall/Opel product that doesn't really exist. Well I'll show you lot...........

They all laughed at Christopher Columbus when he said the world was round. Well I'll have the last laugh and, who's that at the door now? Men with white coats are forcing their way in and telling me not to make this any more difficult than it really needs to be. One of them has a coat that does up round the back and the other has a large syringe and, aaaaaaahhhh. Oooh, I seem to be floating. Mmmmm, nice.

See you all in 5 years..................................

Just looked up the Manta thingy on t'internet and it seems to be in the mould of the old Chevron B16 or B36 or the Lola T70, the open cars looking a lot like the old Can-Am cars of the late '60s and early '70s. The T70 was one of my youthful fantasy cars with the 7-litre Chevy Big Block lump.

A quick deviation from this if it's ok.
When we were little, my brother and I when we were walking on a long straight road I remember, going to get our regulation haircuts used to try to guess what type of car was coming up from behind us (without looking of course).
I tried it again this week, and some youi can still pick out, but it was a damn sight easier back in the old days when cars had their own sound characteristics.
OK, as you were - sorry about that.

We do that now - mostly luck. My friend is impressed - I can only really get really distinctive ones like Subarus or the brapbrap of a rotary. He thinks its magic though. :slayer:

Another variation is as you walk along and each vehicle comes from behind, you have to select only one of the next 10 to keep, but once you have made your choice you can't change it. So for example the first one might be a Golf or something so you reject it, but then the rest are nothing special so in desperation you pick number 9 which is an old Corsa. Then number 10 is an M3 ! Daft I know but passes the time on a boring walk down a busy road.

That's from one of the old fiat trains, were you asking because you knew or because you wanted to know ?

pooroldcodger's post sums up the reason:
Looks like a beautiful piece of engineering whatever it is. Art.

I just thought it was such an interesting photo of a historical Fiat vehicle that I wanted to share it with you all.

It's the driver's control panel from a vintage railcar running on the narrow-guage railway that runs around Mount Etna.

Truly a thing of beauty.

There are more wonderful photos in the link.

Hah that's brilliant! My walks to uni are normally long and dull so that'd keep me occupied! :D
