hi guys thought id sign up to this forum as its probably gonna be a good idea, as i am now a proud owner of a fiat punto mk2 1.2 16v hlx.

bit of info. im 17 and done 1 year at college as a mechanic. the college i went to use mk1 and mk2 puntos with the 1.2 8v engines in as there 'safe' engines. so i guess u could say ive worked on these for around a year.

ive went out and brought a silver punto non runner because why not. i mean im a petrol head without a car.. or tools.. or money.. so yeah own a mk2 punto.

i got some ideas for the car. its not staying standard. screw the insurance it will end up at a scrap yard once im done anyway. so i might start a build thread. but i got a few questions for you guys that im not 100% sure on so if they could be answered that would be great.

how do you mk2 owners get around the 4x98 pcd pattern.. is adapters the cheapest way?

oh also if your a perfectionist about these cars you should stop reading now. :D

if i create a turbo kit from an old peugeot xud engine with around 6 psi boost will the engine die in 5 minutes?

my interior is ugly and old. i want a full leather interior for it, what interior should i look at as i cannot seem to figure out if mk2 puntos came with leather at all? :bang:

last question i promise. :D

is the 1.2 16v a twin cam engine or single cam?

stupid questions i know but hopefully a few mk2 gods can come and help :worship:

so yeah guys as you can probably tell from the questions i want to do some stuff to the car... so i guess ill share all my experiences with you guys and ill post some pictures up of the car when i get chance. also i look forward to some of the haters ill get (y)

thanks guys hopefully this forum will lead to my puntos greatness :D

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Can't help with your other questions but I can confirm the 1.2 16v is indeed a DOHC.

Good luck with your mods :)

For the wheels you will need wobbly bolts & may need spigot rings for the centres .

As for your suggested turbo from a diesel, this is not compatible with a petrol engine.

You really don't want to hear this, but doing a turbo conversion is a whole lot of work not just engine wise, but the back up from suspension & brakes for starters. Best of luck & all that but others will come along and echo what I've said and probably tell you more.

i know theres a lot of work that will need to go into it to be able to turbo it but im not looking at doing it over a week end or anything, and i thought you can use diesel turbos if you have the seals changed and the turbo terracleaned. i maybe wrong but im sure thats how people use the diesel turbos.
but we will see where i get with, i am probably gonna start a build thread for it, but first of all i need to get it running again. just going through things bit by bit eliminating things bit by bit. when it stops raining im checking the timing belt to see if its skipped a tooth or out of time so.

I'm fairly sure the turbo'd Cinqs and Seis use Astra 1.9D turbo units, so I can't see an issue using the Peugeot unit, but then again I know nothing about turbos so it could be something fundamental with that particular unit which makes it incompatible with petrol set ups.

I'm old school so perhaps some turbos nowadays may fit the bill. I would reckon a fair bit of faffing about would be involved. Diesels run at far lower temps is to be considered.

I think it's out of time but not 100% sure and I'm not spending any money on it mods wise until it runs anyway, and that's great I'll start looking for 147 in the scrappers and I'll look at more alfas for back seats whether I need to do some slight mods to get it to fit so, everything's still early stages I need it to run first so

Good to hear that your going to get it running first. In the guides section there is a guide to fitting alfa seats. Also some other guides may be helpful to you in repairing the car
