Grinding noise?

i have a bravo 1.6 sometimes but not everytime when the car is reved there is a grinding noise coming from the car i think its coming from the engine bay. what can it be?

Is it like a rumble?, any vibration?

its a grinding noise like something is scraching only happens when its cold. once car is warmed up its ok. but sometimes still get the grinding sound. no vibrations at all.

is it when it's in gear and being driven? or just stationary? or both?

and also if while stationary have you tried opening to bonnet and revving it on the engine to see where bouts in the engine bay it's coming from?

its both... just happens sometimes tho. erm nope havent checked but its deffo from the engine bay. its a really high pitched sound.

Could be the power steering pump, make a hell of a noise sometimes

ahh i see. because it started happening after the snow fall.. how can i tell if it is the power steering pump? thanks

unscrew the filler cap ensure the fluid is up to the maximum on dipstick start the engine and let it idle. get somebody to turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while you are looking at the level. if it drops add more. keep doing this until the fluid doesn't drop any more and there are no air bubbles.

just went for a drive the noise is not coming anymore! didnt hear no noise but ill check that thanks.

If you get a hissing noise , no worries, thats normal
