Technical Grinding noise when idle

Hi my punto mk1 makes some weird kind of grinding noise when im idle in neutral but when i press the clutch in it all of a sudden goes.. also when its started there is like a grinding/tapping noise coming from the engine making it sound like a diesel im not sure what these problems are so im hoping someone on here can shed some light on things so i can get them both fixed. Think its the thrust bearing? seeing as it goes when you push down the clutch
I'm sure that will be enough info to get the ball rollingl ol

it will be more easyer just changing the gearbox rather than change the thrust bearing and while i do this ill change the clutch aswel

not thrust bearing!!!!! no no no, if it goes when u press the clutch, that means it goes when the thrust bearing is in use, and the gearbox is detached, in most cases its input shaft bearing. (was on mine) and btw i know excatly what you mean, sounds like a clapped out banger, then u press the clutch...and all of a sudden its like new
