Hi guys,

Last few days, the car has started to smell a bit mouldy.. (which I put down to my feet!).. Today it reached a limit that was a bit unbearable, so, after washing my feet, I lifted up my mats to be confronted with a very bad mouldy / rubbery smell. I lifted up the chasis number plate, and stuck my fingers in near the wadding.. and it was soaking wet. Seems like the whole drivers side footwell has a thin puddle of water.

Anyone else checked theres?

Anyone have a clue where it may be coming from (possibly the steering column gland? As its only the drivers side!

I'm in third year of warranty, so I should be able to get it sorted? Hopefully some new wadding, and the hole fixed!

Damn Fiats! Shame I love them so much!

Thanks for your time,

Pete

Could be your heater matrix, have you checked your coolant level ? Could be a leaky door seal but if it been rain much then i doubt thts your problem. Does it smell kinda fishy ?

Good thought with the door seal! It appears to be underneath the carpet though?

Doesnt smell fishy, more mouldy.

Will check coolant level tomorrow mate, thanks!

Well.. took it to dealers, leaks are not covered in the third year of warranty. So I'd be 400 pounds sterling lighter if they where to repair it. They said some seal had gone in the lower section of the bulkhead.

So.. I'm having a go at sealing the whole footwell with some 3M flexible sealant.

The old soaked sound proofing... smells as bad as it looks!

Work in progress.. Cleaned all the base of the carpet too (with mum's febreeze!), and painted all joints on the bulkhead right up in/behind the dashboard.

Damn paint/sealers isnt dry, so car is marrooned on the front with 3 seats! :(

Sorry for image quality too, so much more easier to use the phone..

Whilst you have the car like that, check the windscreen seals, water could be getting in there, and tracking down the bulkhead... tip some water onto the windscreen, and see if it's entering there.

Thanks for the suggestion Alex.

Left hose pipe on window seals for 30 ish mins and sprayed all in engine bay, wheel arch, floor pan and door seals.

Luckily no water ingress at all... could be cured!

Thanks guys.

Now I've spoted some slight (very small may I add) bubbling of paint on the bottom of the door.... Another day, another fault.

Really? Now thats a good point.. Any way to find out? The mechanic did mention about the bulkhead seal.

Mind you, now I've messed about with it, I've probably voided any form of replacement.

No, I don't have a sunroof, its definatly coming from under carpets..

But should be cured now

Do you have aircon?

I had a very similar problem in my Stilo, it was the condensed water (horrible and mucky) leaking into the foot well, it smelt awfull.

Re: Do you have aircon?

Its terrible isnt it! Really takes away the nice-ness of the car.. Is your back to normal now lad?

Mine stinks of epoxy type sealant **** now :( better than a stagnent pond though.. lol!
