Grande Punto Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet.

Introduction

After being on here a while and being reminded i hadnt made a car thread i thought i would share the progress on my GPS for anyone who cares (y)

first off i bought it with 24500 miles on last november from T J Vickers
Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Im currently designing my own custom air intake based on the GSR design, i found where to get all the parts from and hoses but there are a few points that need to be tied down before i order them:

1. The diameters of the 4 pipes that attach to the air intake pipe
2. The optimum bore of the air intake maybe 70-80mm?
3. The dimensions of the GSR kit so i can sort out getting the parts to make it up ie: hoses/bends/tap offs and aluminium tubing

I will be using these:

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

I have just ordered:

250mm long silicone tube 51mm diameter
45 degree reducer 51mm - 63mm
90 degree reducer 63mm - 76mm

all stainless jubilee clips and aluminium hose connectors, all i need now are the hose tap offs for the hoses that connect onto the intake pipe and a new filter

total so far £115 ish

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

I sorted my air intake, i did not manage to get the filter in the position i wanted it behind the front fog light as i couldnt find a way to get the filter down there without taking lots of things apart first. So i settled with the position it is in now anyone interested in making there own will need to order:

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

I reccomend these guys to get everything from (apart from the hose tap offs i dont think they sell them)
http://www.viperperformance.co.uk/

All in all it probably costs about the same price as buying the Forge air intake, but with the satisfaction of making it yourself and being able to customise the hose colours and lengths to what you want (y)

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

looks pretty good that, only thing maybe itcould do with would be a heat shield type around the filter if that makes sense. other than that mate car looks very well, what you doing with the forge intake?

I plan on making a full heat shield for it out of some aluminium sheet soon, sold the forge intake a few weeks ago ;) im pretty set on getting some black rims to make it look a bit meaner, and the vinyl grill thingy.
Cheers (y)

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Hey thinking of doing the induction myself too just to see what its like. Does it sound the same than the forge one?

Ohh and what is the bracket you have to hold it up?

Ill put some more pics up tonight, ive changed it a bit so the filter is in a similar position to the GSR now and made a bracket to hold it. It sounds similar to the Forge one but less raspy/tinny but you cant really get away from that sound with the GPS :bang:

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Right i managed to fit the extra elbow on to get the filter below the headlight. I had to remove the screws holding the inner wheel arch in place to push it out the way and fit the air filter through the gap (y)

When you get the bits (PuntoJack) all of them will be too long so its a case of keep cutting things down untill it fits, even the aluminuim connector tubes need to be cut down as the bends are so close together with the hose tap offs

so good luck :D

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Cool cheers mate, I still don't know how you made the bracket though and where it coneects too on the one without the 90 degree bend, sorry haha but could you tell me how please :)

I dont have any pictures of how it was when i didnt have the 90 deg bend down in, but i just used a strip of metal twisted round 90 degrees and bolted one side to the plastic rim of the air filter and the other to the headlight mount (see pics below) i took some pics of my current bracket which i used an exhaust bracket to clamp the silicone hose and welded on some bits to mount it up onto the same headlight mount, its a bit of a bodge but it should do for now

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Went down to Tune4Performance to have my map done, bargain at £200 :D Tony did a good job of getting some nice torque figures. The car is so much more responsive, revs smoother and has power all the way up to the redline. The exhaust (catalytic converter) is stopping any more being given from the engine so before i can hit 170 i need a de-cat pipe. Tony also loved my custom air intake, he thought it was a GSR at first but after explaining i made it myself he then said it was the most effective air intake he had seen on a Grande t-jet (apart from the GSR ovcourse )

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Are those figures with the other turbo on or the standard one? Ive never heard him say that before, normally he just says a bigger bore cat back is needed =/ What bore is your exhaust?

Edit: I just seen you answered it in the other thread!

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Right done quite a lot recently:

1. Wheels sprayed black and fitted with four new Yokohama Parada Spec II tyres.
2. Had boost problems and lack of power, dealership charged me £80 to tell me sweet F/A. Then replaced boost sensor which helped, then replaced the turbo actuator for the Forge one which also helped. Now the cold mornings are back i have lots more torque so i think i need an intercooler to help keep the power.
3. Installed a boost gauge on the dash pod.
4. Just ordered the actuator spring kit as the green spring supplied limits the boost to 0.7 bar. The yellow spring goes up to 1.03 bar and the blue up to 1.25, red up to 1.38 bar. I intend to test them all at some point to see what difference they all make.
5. Some **** in a corsa side swiped me on a duel carriage way then decided not to stop and let me rip his head off  after a short chase through the country i forced him off the road, smashed his car up a bit and then dragged him out onto the floor. I picked up the damages in cash from him last week (y)
Sorry for the loooooong post and i will try to get some pics up soon of the work

Re: Grande Punto Sporting T-Jet

Right fitted the yellow actuator spring, more torque during normal driving but there is sometimes a huge flat spot at the top of the rev range

If anyone would like to buy the air intake system i made it is up for sale, cost me nearly 200 to make. Very similar to the GSR setup. Would swap for a VL36/7/8 turbo unit (y)

Ignor the post above ;)

Had diagnosis on the RR, boost is 0.7 even with the actuator pipe clamped so the turbo pressure is controlled by the Forge actuator.

Tony believes it is either the valve the actuator acts on is broken or the exhaust (cat) is partially blocked which is not letting the turbo spool up enough. As there is no smoke and it produces 0.7 bar we believe the turbo itself is OK.
Next up is a Ragazzon de-cat pipe to see if that finally solves it. Ive also fitted some rally style mudflaps which i will get some pictures of on here asap
