Got an 04 JTD 115, the glow plug indicator on the dash has just started to flash after ignition, which according to the handbook means that there is a fault with the glow plug pre heating system, does anyone know what this is likely to mean?

It's got 130K on it so I'm guessing that one or more of the glow plugs is on it's way out.................?

Mine does that and your assumption is correct. But if it starts don't worry about it ;)

One is quite difficult to replace apparently. So have Homestart on your Breakdown policy and let the mechanic worry about it if it ever goes wrong. :D

Thanks so far folks, does anyone have a link etc as to where the glow plugs are located?

They're behind and below the intake manifold at the rear of the engine, and the No 1 is a pig to get at. BikeDoc speaks wise words I'd look elsewhere if you are having problems starting - it won't be the glow plugs, try a fully charged battery before spending any accers. If its just the warning light that's bugging you, get it cleared and see if it comes on again.

Cheeky question : - are you sure its the 'glow plug' and not the ever frequent 'injector' [the world is coming to an end] icon that lights up ?

If it is glow plugs, ask around for a price. Most garages have a special long reach, cranked socket which makes it a lot easier (for them!).
I got mine done for just over £100 with NGK glowplugs, don't go for cheap glowplugs as the cost is in the labour, the plugs are relatively cheap.
