Knightmare, now the mechanic in the garage is flirting with me!!!!! Bloody men!!! still no sign of a TRUE PRICE! or when my girl will be good to come home! boohoooo<<<<<<<<<<currently drivin my mums bleeding green seat cordoba aarrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh(n)

Endlessley waiting for the garage to call me! Im kinda pig sick of calling them, thats een over 12 working days, and all ever get is its gonna be under a grand babe! wheres the breakdown asole with the vat separate or included! Im well pissed off getting the bus and borrowing my mums car, jeez why cantlife be more perfect, you know ! with exactley what it says n the tin! xax:bang:

O yeah like all 5'2 of me is gonna argue this a bloke that has my wee engine in bits! did anyone volunteer to help me tow the little car away? erm i think not, still all is fair in the motor trade to new drivers me thinks, im gonna have a field day with the garages insurance jobs! ( im gona contact the main insurance companies they deal with and highlight my case! so they double check the work they send there, is this a good idea? xdx

DONT TELL ME THAT YOU LOT TOLD ME SO , COS YOU DIDNT!

I did (check your pm's) & plenty of offers of help from here...forget the fact its stripped down...I would of got it towed away & put all bits in a box or in the boot.Put this one down to experience;)

ehh we told you to contact other garages, by get it towed if the engine is in bits i'd assume people ment by a recovery van etc, not a tow rope.

You mention insurance, are you talking about contacting car insurance places and telling them there dodgy, just contact consumer advice etc, say you were pressurised into the work etc as i assume you were.

You could end up in trouble if you accuse the garage of something to companys it deals with the will not be impressed.

So get free legal advice if you feel you've been overcharged etc.

Have they told you what the problems are? you mentioned the AA guy said sump and head gasket.

She is still in the garage and iv still no acurate price, they picked her up on the 9th may, stated repair would be 10 -12 working days 23rd may, they still have her! hopfully 29th, jeez as for taking matters further, the top price for a new sump is £230, top price for head gaskette is £475, so the garage stating under a grand with no break down or acurate price is kinnda upsetting, still welcome to the world of motoring:bang:

She is still in the garage and iv still no acurate price,:

Get it taken away while you still can, how much can you trust a garage like this when the total bill comes in?

Not intending to be funny, but it takes a garage AND a customer to get into this situation. All the warning signs are there, extract the car in bits while you can.

Good luck anyway :)

Called the burnett garage ( mollinsburn )today and well wouldnt you know she aint ready iv to call back on friday!! im sick pig fecking sick...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................xdx

This thread is just ridiculous. Why come on here and ask for help when you've ignored every thing that has been said? I'll bet the garage wishes every customer was like you. Oh, and it's nothing to do with being new to cars and motoring, this is just plain stupidity and ignorance. A bit of common sense goes a long long way. Sorry for being so blunt, but you need to get that car out of there asap and take it somewhere else...

I dont understand why not - when someone tried to overcharge me for having a rad on my coupe, when i asked the price of the parts and fitting and they were a few hundred quid i phoned them up and said i would be taking the car away and wouldnt be paying anything.

I collected the car and took plenty of water to top up the rad to get it home.

Its not hard, they cant say no.

every post i have read on this thread are people telling you to take it somewhere else, so i would have said they did tell you so

If you ask for advice you should really take the advice that is offered, or at least think it over. If people see you asking for advice and ignore it then they wont be inclined to help in the furture.

People are offering sound advice you should listen to them evenmore so when you are asking fot it :)

i have to agree with everyone you should have taken it somewhere else, and people did warn you!

although i hope it all ends well and that you didn't get mugged off again to the extent that you have been already.

how long are you willing to wait?
how much are you willing to pay?

from what i've read so far, the answer to both questions is the same, whatever the garage tells you.

i predict a very large repair bill, a badly repaired engine with recurring problems, and even worse i think you'll pay for it.

if you arent going to help yourself, why should anyone else?

realistically the only option you have left is to seek legal advice. citizens advice bureau can help you, but at the end of the day you have to help yourself and actually do something about this. if you dont you're going to get shafted.

im afraid i have to agree with the last few replies, especially Jugs re the quality of work etc

unfortuantely it seems the garage is calling the shots and saying 'ball park' prices for the work etc and then just sitting back knowing they will get a big payment at the end of it

if the work involved was sump and head gasket id expect the cost to be around 500 from a garage and 2 days in there, christ, if i could get the head to a machineist myself i could do it all in an afternoon really. the parts themselves should only cost 100 ish then its labour ontop. as said, ask and make sure you get an itemised bill, otherwise you wont know how youve been fleeced, and dont just let the 'headgasket' and 'sump' be put on the bill, ask for the individual part costings, machining for the head and labour involved.

it did appear that you had alot of people asking where you were other trhan glasgow and then they could point you in the rigyht direction, you even had one person offer to take a detour to have a look on your drive for you...

i think this is a very hard learning experience for you im afraid, and hopefully you can get it resolved to the point that your car is both reliable and doesnt hurt your pocket too much

Davey Grahams in Cumbernauld, very very reasonable costs and he's an honest lil man, if you want his number, pm me :)

Ive had experience with Burnett, he's a rip off bast*rd, always has been and always will be.

As for Davey, its more than likely he'll just do an engine swap if he thinks its more cost effective for you. If I know Davey, and I do, I dont see you paying more than 300ish for the lot, labour, parts and whatever else

PS: He can be difficult to make out on the phone as he has a deep irish accent:p

The car is your property, you can give written notice of one or 2 days and collect it, or send in the new garage with a written authority. If there are any charges pay under protest and sue later. I had to do this once with the MGB the guy got a birt shirty but I took a large friend along at the appointed time and did not need him, the car was on the forecourt ready to go. If he will not give you your property back it's called theft.
