I have just spent a few very enjoyable evenings browsing the forum all the way up to page 101. I dont know what that says about me, but as a new owner of 03 1.9 jtd elx I found my random browsing very interesting and entertaining.
A few recurring issues prompted some thoughts which may alresdy have been resolved but I did not read every post so please forgive me if I am submitting well known info. I am not a techy but I do drive for a living so here goes.
MPG; One contributor commented that his mpg seemed to improve with sainsburys fuel compared to other supermarket brands. Well I have not been on diesel long enough to comment specifically on diesel but my previous car was a Lexus GS 300 ( 3 ltr straight 6 ) which had a very active engine managment light which was extremely worrying to start with until over time I realised that it really only went out when using sainsburys super unleaded petrol. Almost every other, and especially supermarket brands brought the light on within 10 mins of fuelling. Other owners with same engine told me similar stories so could it be that sainsburys fuels are of a higher standard than other supermarket brands?

DPFs; I work for a large local authority which has just purchased a large number of VW minibuses. Shortly after we started using them we received a memo to say that if the DPF light came on we should take the bus for a run for at least 15 mins at a minimum of 2000 rpm in any gear except 1st. Most of these vehicles are doing short city runs but I never encountered the problem. My run is 2 hours rural at around 50 mph. Surely this illustrates the value of a good run to a modern diesel.

Tyres; There seems to be a good deal on Avon Z4 tyres on tyreshopper.com right now. £54 fully fitted inc vat. Seem to have good ratings all round for grip, economy etc.

Hope all this may be of help to someone out there.
