General General Panda thoughts

In can see we have both had our fingers burnt!
Its not unknown for these ECU's to go bad....and when they do you are in for one hell of a ride!

But for the most part these have been used all the way though to the pun to so they are well known and pretty well built/documented.

I'll get to the bottom of it, its on the list of things to do, if its not resolved by a simple plugs, oil, filters, leads service I'll buy the cables I need

There is something to be said for "back to basics" motoring.

I don't have to reset the clock when they change (Fizzle hasn't got one), and with no distracting gadgets to play with I find I pay more attention to what I should be doing ie; driving the car.
I also think it pays to be able to "listen" to what the car is telling you, Fizzle tells me when she doesn't like a particular gear anymore, too many or sometimes not enough revs.
When I had the 500 it would beep when over a certain speed. Fizzle gives off a tinny rattle over 60 from the speedo, much more informative and less annoying!
The thought of no airbags, crumple zones or side impact protection bars really does concentrate the mind though, I'm a better driver behind the wheel of Fizzle imo of course! :p

Re: Re: General Panda thoughts

On Pandas without the radio console you can fit in 3 extra bottles of wine with your Chinese if your coming back from the off licence....

'That' is the kind of information I'm looking for on a forum. Proper research

They will tell you, I have years of experience in this particular field of research

Is this the bit were we put our ramblings?

Here's mine for the day

Who needs this crap in their cars?

One of the reasons I like my Panda is that it doesn't have all this stuff distracting you from the driving. Ok its not a Lotus 7 but it does feel like your connected to the road and everything you do has a cause and effect, agree?

And I'm not a complete luditte either. I love the fact that Fiat Designers seen the future and knew we'd need somewhere to keep our laptops so gave us the big dash pocket to keep them in and it's cool that I can connect a Windows smartphone to the 'Infotainment System' (ok, the 1989 tape deck lol) via one of those cheap cassette adapters so I can sing along with Roxette :p

"It must of been love but it's over now.... "

I knew I was in trouble when I didn't understand what some of those "essentials" were!! Car centric app integration ffs :bang:

The Abarth will doubtless sinc with everything - I told the salesman to shut up (literally!) when he was telling me how to pair my blueteeth with something when I picked it up ;) Yes everything's brilliant but I won't be able to fix it with a hammer if it goes wrong....

I love the 127/Panda simplicity & I'm with the Luddites when it comes to unnecessary complications like fuel injection! At least I have a fighting chance with points & feeler gauges (y)

Really, I have on a rare few occasions RL our 500 and no beep was noted?

I do hate the bloody beep that tells me to put my seatbelt on, in a bloody carpark not doing a track session (for the record I always clink click when on a road)

The speed beep is turnoffable fortunately. Why do you need to know you've exceeded any given speed? You have a big clock like thing in front of you for that. I guess 100 might be useful to save your licence come to think of it - I might set mine......

Yes, I know what you mean now, I recall seeing it on the settings menu, its set to 90 on the 500... and I have never heard it!

Have to say the blue and me on the 500 doesn't like my old wildfire at all..... iphone is ok though!

:yeahthat: My GP has the speed warning thing, switched it off although the previous owner had set it to 125mph for some reason

Also, I grew up with the advent of fuel injection however I know the workings and how to set up a carb (probably not perfectly) however I don't have the slightest clue on how to do anything with my modern day SMPI engine.

I grew up with carbs, but I find injection more logical, I can understand fuel maps and information that you can see and quantify.
I think you have to have a lot more knowledge to work well with carbs.

There are some great vids on YouTube that have help me come to terms with working on carbs.

Carbs are ok but only as part of a balanced diet :p :D

I've tried turning off the speeding alert thing in my Pandas, it stays off for a while but eventually Barbara always manages to wrestle the gag off.

Could sleep so came on for a nosey...

In the mean time here's a pic of Sylvia (the Panda) somewhere interesting nicked by Jalopnik to show up how unreliable Fiat's are....
