Re: Ill find out
Hi, I don't have any experience of a Punto GT, but I did own a Uno Turbo for 2 years.
Performancewise, it was awesome, I had her upto 145 on the speedo before I bottled out. It had been uprated by the previous owner, lowered suspenders, janspeed exhaust wastegate twiddly thing under the bonnet, dunno how it worked, but when you twiddled it one way the boost gauge needle almost bent the stop and when twiddled in the other way you only got a little bit of boost.
Anyways Fuel economy was pretty damn good, if driven normally then the average was about 35ish, foot flat to the floor was less than 20mpg, I think the worst I got was around 18mpg! The best I got with real careful driving and doing 60ish on the motorway was nearly 50mpg. Pretty amazing really.
I would reckon that the Punto would be about the same, drive her hard and you'll get crap figures, be careful and you'll get high numbers.
They are easily tweaked, pretty good strong engines.
I know on the Uno the weakest link was the small rubber tub on top of the turbo coming from the intercooler, mine split twice, £60ish each if I remember.
Cambelts are required every 25K, don't listen to Fiat, change em early, it's not an expensive job on the Punto's and compared to what could happen it's a bargain.
Change the oil every 6K for the best synthetic you can afford, it's a 10 minute job.
The Punto GT is a pretty rare car, if you are after a runabout get a Uno Turbo, cheap as chips. £600 will get you a pretty good one, cheap insurance, great fun, still a fair amount of tweaking kits available for the Uno. There are two on Ebay at the moment.
