I've searched for how to remove the gearknob from sawing to using a wrench..what IS the best way..apparently fiat use a "special tool" to get the g/knob off..i'm guessing its something like a wrench!!:D !!also..i've a hgt g/knob in the post..how will that fit on?just push it on once the old ones off??

Well as yours is a 1.2 and has lift up reverse i've no idea, and hgt has push down reverse, so you'll need some way of lifting up the collar to get the car in gear. So before you go yanking it off i'd find out. All the others just pull off with a large amount of upwards force.

the knob is separate to the lift up ring..the knob sits above it..as far as i can see neway!!i'll make sure tomorrow

I kind of recall it takes more than simply taking the knob off. Wait till tomorrow and once my forum is back on, I'll search for some hints.

Hi again! Here comes the feedback. If you want to leave the "ring" you'll need a special knob that works with it. Anyway, there is a need to invent "on the go" and re-engineer the mechanism if you want to shorten the rod, as in this version it varies in diameter top from below.

The knob has to be yanked off anyway - you may very well just cut it into pieces to take it off.

Also - you may simply decide to throw the "ring" mechanism away but you'll have to remember not to switch to gear 6 ;)

Yea as long as you never ever have to use reverse.

lift up usually does not have a cable to the gearbox, its simply a plastic bit on the selector that prevents engagement of reverse. once you remove it you can select reverse in the same way as a normal car. but you must check that there is no cable going to the gearbox first (like you expect to see on a push down gearstick)

Ahh i see interesting.

I bought a chrome one with the fiat logo set into the top, one of the first upgrades a car needs me thinks :D
