Right, ive found a gearbox out of a mk1 but im told it has a slight crunch when you go into 3rd gear if your giving it stick.

Can the above problem be sorted quite cheaply before i put it in?

Depends is it deffo the box and not the clutch?

The Synchro could be shagged on it if it's taken some abuse

syncro on third gear gone. not to hard to replace. just drop the box in at a gearbox specialist. should sort quickly enough. should not cost much either.:)

strip your old box and take the 3rd syncr,3rd gear & syncro hub and put it in the new one. or take the 4th gear setup from the new box and put it in your old, which ever you prefer.

Is putting the 3rd syncro and 3rd gear syncro hub into another box a easy job and can it be done without speacailst tools?

you must have some technical knowledge as you will have to strip the gearbox and it can get quite tricky if you do it for the first time. but just ask if you need any advise if you want to performe the job yourself.

I don't use any special tools just a normal tool set.
