Technical gearbox selector set wrong

my gear lever was really stiff changing between gears.

i followed a thread on here that told me to remove battery and try and clean the cables to the gearbox that were visable.

i could not clean very well so i have undone the closest arm with a cable attached to the gear lever to wipe all the build up of grime on it, and found it was very very difficult to relocate and bolt back down.
i have relocated it now, but i think in the wrong position as now the gear lever is in an odd place in the car and thestiffness is till there and i can't select all of the gears now.

any help please
