Technical Gearbox Ratio's

Hi,

Does anyone know if there's a difference in gear ratio's between a Coupe 20v Turbo and a Marea 20v ?.

I have a chance to purchase a Coupe gearbox with visco drive but don't know if the Coupe's gear ratio's will be taller than the Marea's.

yeah, 1st is the same i believe but rest are higher.

wouldnt bother fitting it to your N/A though, will only slow it down.

fitting the 20v box on the 20vT could be interesting.

i remember the first time i tried that idea, i had a mk1 orion ghia. i stuck on a gearbox from a mk3 escort 1.1 popular plus. i swear to god the difference was really amazing, it makes a remap look pointless.

i thought about doing it when i do the conversion Jug but blanked the idea as it will probably slow me down....

we used to fit 1.9 deisel box's on the 1.6 when we whent banger racing and although it only did about 85-90 it got there dam quick and got to 60 in about 6.5-7.5 secs never timed it but raced it against an rs turbo fiesta down at the old garages and it was neck and neck, only problem was it kept blowing up lol

Update...

Got the box for approx £100 off a relatively low mileage Turbo. Have had a look at the Marea workshop data and as far as I can tell the ratios for the 20v are as follows :-

1st..3.545
2nd..2.238
3rd..1.520
4th..1.156
5th..0.919

However I was knackered and my eyes where killin' so could be wrong !!.

Still unsure of the Coupe's ratio's but did find out a few interesting things.. for me anyway. The front subframe looks to be identical to my brothers Alfa 155 and the ARB links are also the same as his, ie shorter and bolt through the lower arms rather than the Marea's strut.

The whole reason for me trying to fit the Visco drive is that my brother and I are going back to the Nurburgring next year. Knowing how the Marea spins it's wheels when driven hard on damp roads, I think that the sacrifice in gearing would be well compansated in additional grip.

I hope to have the box fitted within the next 6 months or so, with a new clutch, so will post again when it's tested out.

you can just look at swapping the diff for the visco engagement.

I had thought about that option but our kid had major problems sorting shims for his. Will have to quiz him some more.
