Gearbox problem?? Advice needed!

Hello,

Just recently got a Fiat Brava 1.6, manual 5 speed. Having major old problems with the thing already! I can't use 3rd or 5th gears and it's making quite a nasty crunching sound unless it's in neutral or with the clutch down. I assume it's the gearbox, but not being all that mechanically minded, was hoping to get your opinions on it...any ideas??

Reads as if someone sold it to you knowing it was dodgy, if it really was recently.
Any chance of taking it back? You have 3 months minimum by law for a major failing like the gearbox if you bought it from a trader, no matter what they might try and tell you.
Visit CAB or Trading Standards to back you up if you get grief.

Hello,

Well I was given it, so even if I end up scrapping the thing, I'm not all that bothered. Would be nice to have a working car though and not go through the hassle of buying another one...
