Recently bought 2003 2.3jtd camper with 25k on the clock. It has a dealers warranty for three months, two of which remain. The noise is not always there but generally occurs on the up change when the clutch is depressed and the lever is advanced. It sounds and feels like the release bearing but it's never heard when stationary and the clutch depressed or even early on into a journey. Is this a common problem that is known? We need to get this sorted within the warranty.Thanks

Hi ,
I would check the operation of the clutch first ( weepy / tired slave cylinder is favourite),
then maybe get a local garage / MR Clutch to check it over ( quote for the work).. worth spending a few ££'s to get it sorted before a big bill out-of warranty ,

Result, of sorts.
My guy tried the van out tonight and said it was basically A OK. The noise is created by the higher pressure turbo spooling down from high revs whilst the faint vibration is from the dual mass fly wheel. He has been servicing a small fleet of these vans and found it hard to believe that mine was the same as it drove so well compared to the 100k plus ones he's used to.

Just read this post and was interested as your problem sounds very similar to mine (on 2004 2.3jtd motorhome) . Did you investigate your problem further or leave things as they are?
.Firstly though the 2.3 jtd does not have a DMF but solid flywheel and in any case DMF's were introduced to reduce vibration and noise in diesel engine geartrain.
In my case everybody including myself was convinced that noise was the clutch release bearing ,so the whole clutch was replaced ( twice as the first one had a fault on it).
This made no difference so on second strip down everything possible was inspected but nothing wrong could be found to cause this noise/vibration ,so I just live with it now as it must have been there when I bought the MH and has got no worse.
Perhaps it was there from new and no one pursued getting it rectified.
I do have a theory that it has something to do with the hydraulic system as the noise and in particular vibration maybe coming through this to the pedal .On some models maybe only LHD a hydraulic damper is fitted between the slave and master cylinder.
Interested to know your outcome or if anyone else has experienced this
Still making the noise under acceleration in 3rd ,4th and 5th never on the down shift. Have done two trips abroad since Xmas, 2.5k miles, still pulls and drives great our only worry now is that when we come to sell the next owners will have the same anxieties.
