Gear stick shortening etc...

Ok, I know these are silly questions and I believe I've seen answers for them somewhere here but I'd just like to clarify a few things...

1. How is the standard gear gaitor held in place?
(Glued, screwed, clipped etc)

2. On fitting a new gear surround what material am I likely to be drilling into?

3. I take it the gear stick itself is metal?
Any particular blade needed for trimming this down a bit?

4. Can I assume that a gear knob with 'universal' fitting will fit on me Bravo?
(MK2 100SX)

Sorry for these stupid questions although we all know theres no such thing as stupid questions, just stupid people...

How much are you planning on chopping it by? The bravo box is notchy enough as is! :)

Well...

Not too much!!
Probably take about half an inch off the top. Is it best not to mess with its length then? (Ooer)

Re: Re: Gear stick shortening etc...

Check www.bravo-guide.co.uk for a guide on shortening the gear stick.

1 - It's clipped in

2 - Plastic

3 - A metal hacksaw blade

4 - Yes

Thanx

Thanx lads for the advice...and the promptness of it too!!!
Can I assume I'm not the only one at lunch at the mo?

Cheers...I'm off to Larkspeed to do some shopping.

Really its not difficult taking the knob off..

I have the abarth surround and leather gaitor with a universal knob....thats fits on with alan keys.Although i havent made the lever any shorter, would like to know how u get on with that!

Re: Re: you still need to eat!

On the topic of gearknobs, if you chop part off the stick it might get a liitle choppy.

One thing that all Fiat owners shoulg do is check their gearbox oil regularly especially this that lower tha car. The bellow/oil seal can easily tear up and gearbox oil will leak out.
