Just got into car and tried to select reverse gear, couldn't get it but could get the forward gears.
Now the gear stick feels wrong as if there is too much movement and it keeps flick back to the central position, is this something anyone else has suffered with.

And as always is there a solution.

cheers

you are right it is, the end has slipped off the selector, it looks like the centre has come out of the actual circular connector which looks a poor design.

hoping there is a kit or something I can change, the battery tray etc. is a pain to get out.

Can anyone tell me can you get a kit or does the whole cable have to be replaced?

Thats what I did, I think it might have been an old post of yours I found, the picture was perfect and was the exact fault I had.

One thing to ask for future reference, the gear selector shaft\bar that has the nut holding it onto the gearbox, is that removable, I started to undo the bolt but the whole thing undid, the nut did not come off the stud it just unscrewed it, I stopped at that point in case it was not supposed to happen and I ended up ding more damage.

Same here, had to come home in 4th with no reverse... upper gear link ball joint had come apart - the bonding between the rubber bumper ring and the bearing housing had separated. It was re-assembled using quick 2-part epoxy from radiospares (RS components) A few points : the battery tray is a nuisance, all the cable clips seem to require a tool I don't have. Remove the plastic drip tray to discover the two mounting bolts and a nut down the hole in the middle. The actuator lever on the gearbox was a worry at first but it isn't a problem - undo the nut and note that the shaft will move up and down and disengage from the fork inside, but it's no trouble to re-locate by lifting and turning until it re-engages when re-assembling.
