Hello all…:slayer:

Shame on me for I have done something very stupid….:bang:

My gear knob came loose my little Fiat Punto MK2 so I decided to stick it back on with Superglue (this has happened in the past and is fine!)

I did this last night and let it set over night…now I can’t get the car in reverse!

I have tried to pull the gear knob off and it’s stuck solid! After a bit or a rant and screaming at the car I decided to try a little more tactful approach….i have use and adjustable spanner to pull away at the gear knob but nothing..it’s stuck fast!

Apart from sawing the top of the gear know off and tipping nail varnish removed into the hole I can’t really think of any other ideas…

As funny as this, I’m stuck without a car and I have Girlfriend with a broken leg…:(

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Warm water breaks down super glue, failing that thats a hard one.

And pouring hot water on the inside of a cars sorta fail as well.

Or if you need to use the car, I hope you are fit if you need to reverse.

if most things fail, try using solvent pvc cleaner, its like nail polish remover but stronger and its eats away at pretty much any adhesive, i think you can get it pretty cheep at wilko's

Assuming it is lift up reverse as wilko says (which I think it is) and if it's anything like my Sei, you could just remove the plastic bit that stops the gearstick moving over. Sure you'll be able to put it into reverse without having to lift the ring but that could be fun to scare folk behind you as you go to do it while travelling at 70 on the motorway ;)

The Reverse gear on mk2's is a lift the collar up - and slot into reverse

Whats happened is you've got Glue where the Reverse color slides up into the gear knob

There is such thing as super-glue remover - if it'll work hey presto

But superglue break down under heat and or steam

So Get cooking is all i can say

Ziggy

why not turn the car upside down so you can tip nail polish remover down the crack?
or make a sealed arrangement around the stalk.

i don't use super glue i use paper

reverse is overrated

final one.
get out and push

Did u ever resolve this mate?

I've stupidly just done the same thing!

LOL I just did the sameish thing too, Except I noticed before the glue set and now the collar is glued up. So I always have access to reverse. FML
