hi all
i have fiat punto 2000 1.2 and just recently started experiencing some problems with going through the all gears, but to engage reverse i have to switch engine off, engage reverse and start the car .the clutch was definitely ruled out.any ideas?? thanks!!

thanks for advice
car is pulling as it should, going well (third gear up the hill),revs increasing same rate as the speed and apart from reverse, she is occasionally going through the gears like a dream.all this pointing that clutch is fine.could i be wrong!?

Reverse is a NON syncro gear
And what dont help is its a Straight Cut gear set as well (Hence the whine when you go fast in reverse)

When you go to reverse, you need to be at a full stop

then engage reverse, if thats not happening
Lift the clutch up while in neutral, and then dip clutch and select reverse

It indicates that the clutch isn't slipping. is all.

But it sounds like it could be not disengaging properly. That could be a master or slave issue or oil contamination of the clutch plates or a release bearing on its way out.

sounds like your clutch friction plate is good but your cover plate is suspect and not disengaging could be also your master or slave cylinders either way its got clutch drag wrote all over it
