Technical Gear Box

Hi my Seicento Sporting on a 2000. gearbox is really stiff, the 1st 2nd and reverse are hard to get into. I have tried the clutch adjusment as it had a new clutch but that was no good.

Will a gear box from a Cinq (non sports) 1993 fit or will i have to get a new gear box?

A cinq sporting box would fit as another option

Check gearbox oil isnt on the low side

Who fitted the clutch? If the wierdness dates from the clutch fitment, chances are they did something wrong. Take it back!

I dont know.. i have just had the car for 2 days and found quite a few problems that need sorting out...
The clutch is very close to the floor

Try adjusting it, 3 or 4 complete turns clockwise. I'd say it's far more likely to be clutch or clutch adjustment than gearbox.

When you say try turning it 3 or 4 times what exactly do you mean.(step by step!) lol

OK, it helps to have someone help you with this at first. Put them in the car, open the bonnet, you go and stand looking back toward the passenger compartment. Get then to press down and release the clutch repeatedly until, looking down, you see a bar moving backward and forward. At the end of that bar is a big white plastic nut thing -- the clutch adjuster.

Once you've found it, they can stop pressing on the pedal and go and put the kettle on. Grab the nut and turn it clockwise: it'll sort of click (or clunk) every half turn. Give it 6 clonks and have a quick blast round the block, see if it helps, and so on. The clutch pedal should be about level (or slightly higher than) the brake pedal.

I've had same problem with mine. Old clutch cable snapped after a garage across the road from my works adjusted it. And so i got a new one fitted by a trusted garage, and the problem you've had, i have had also. So my works garage has now adjusted this new cable after the same problem occurred over the weekend. Hes now adjusted it, and it works fine, but how long for? What are the chances of it snapping again?

Cinq cables are renound for snapping as X members on here will tell you ... even people who dont have cin'qs must be bore dof them snapping lol

6 million dollar question. Unknown.

Dont be suprised to hear of stories from owners which have snapped within a few miles of replacement or be on close to double figures regarding how many times they have required this part
