yeah, its only 25 miles away from my house
as are most decent places.
the local near me is good enough when the uni students are back home, they put on a clubbing/disco style night

Of course it doesn't! Why should it? And remember, coming out is a choice not an obligation.
Thing is, by assumption (unless it is blatently obvious), most meets ARE straight meets. The straight people of society make up the majority therefore most gatherings unless stated otherwise can be assumed to be straight. There is no point in having a straight meet because most already are.
There is strength in numbers, and as we've seen on this thread many people feel more comfortable with 'coming out' knowing they are going to be in like company. And by having a gay meet means that any straights that go along are most likely to be gay friendly rather than homophobes that sadly still exist today.
As for discrimination, for fooks sake how many of us go to "Fiat Only" or "Italian Only" events?!!! And the classic Panda section has some of their own mini meets yet I don't hear "discrimination against other Fiats" being shouted out.
So why would anyone be "too scared" to say anything about a gay Fiat owners meet??? It's a free world so if gay Fiat owners want to arrange a meet then why not? It would only be un-PC if it was gay ONLY, as that would then discriminate against straights. I mean, there's even places and societies that have "Family days", so does that mean those that don't have families or come from broken homes are excluded?
A bit of common sense and tolerance will help mankind to get along so much better
