changed engine on w reg 1.2 8v punto and accidently earthed the live of the starter to the engine with my ratchet and now the alternator light is and and battery not charging so just wondering where the fuse is, ive done this a few times on other cars forgetting to disconnect battery coz is rushed the fuses have always been tricky to find. just wondering if this would cut out the power steering too, because the steering is dead prier to the engine change it was ok but haven't checked the fuse yet.
cheers

just to get this right,

if your saying that your still getting a warning light when engine is running then I,m pretty sure your alternator is knackered, there is no fuse that controls the alternator, asking about whether engine running because would have thought only fuse on that line would be main ignition fuse but if engines running then Its obviously not that

easy to check if any output from alternator -with engine running just put voltmeter between battery terminals, should read around 12/13v turn on headlights, radio ,heater blower voltage out put should remain about the same if it drops then once again your alternators bugg----

also forgot to mention the red window light is on aswell all the windows work all doors have closed just a coinsodance that both these have come on together. When i start the car the battery light goes off for like a second then stays on, checked the voltage and theres not charging voltage, cant get to the back very well otherwise id check it off the teminals just wasnt sure didnt want to spend 20-30 gettin alternator and it still not charge.

right got one from scrap yard and the light is still on just to check to wires i got on it, is the short red on from alternator to starter then on the thin terminal post i got a thin black one. on the starter i got the red one from the alternator on one teminal with another thin black one ,on the other terminal i got the red one from the battery. light is still on any theorys guys. Sorted the door light anyway

are you now getting charging output at battery?

pretty sure that once a fault has been logged on the ECU ,which will show as warning light ,the only way to remove it is to have the faults cleared at a garage with diagnostic, unless you know someone who has personal fault code reader

no voltage to battery with new starter, going to check the exciter wire(small one) i should get battery voltage to that ,to power the rotor. the next test is , if i put the small wire to earth the light should go out , so yeah ill report back. dont think the ecu logs codes for the charging system, because the isnt any type of monitor to report back to ecu, still very basic wiring wise.
