Hi all, noticed today that when i start the car up and press the clutch down an odd squeling noise occurs, not relly loud but does sound similar to the noise that a fan belt makes when lose but weaker, when you let of the clutch it clunks very slightly and stops squeling, doesnt do it as much (if at all) when the car has warmed through though. Any ideas? when the clutch was replaced, about 10- 12 k ago the guy said something of just catching the fork or something before it went?

Car is a 1.4 s 1998 with 67k on clock

All ideas would be useful,

Thanks
Stu

bit OT, but you just reminded me, my mk1 hgt makes a squealling sound similar to your description. but not sure if linked to clutch**.

not sure if cluth has ever been changed, its got 71k on clock

only makes sound for 1 second on start up, then never again for the rest of the day. only get it again if starting up 12-18 hours between starts. guess after getting a propper cool off.

Dont know about squealing but when my clutch went you can hear the thrust bearing making more of a grinding sound

My clutch doesn't squeel but sometimes i hear a clunk when I depress the clutch after a gear change when moving and also when free wheeling in gear and as soon is I slightly touch the accelerator i sometimes get a clunk!

Anyone know what this clunk is?

Thinking about it, my clutch made weird noises before the whole lot seized and I had to replace the thrust bearing, slave cylinder and clutch...I'd get it checked out - better safe than sorry!
