You may recall I had a mysterious running problem on my 4x4 that I traced to the fuel pump rod jamming, wearing out the cam and not pumping fuel.
Well I have a new cam, new fuel pump rod, and new fuel pump and it runs very well now. BUT! It's still doing my head in!
If I leave the car for a few days the fuel will drain back to the tank and evaporate from the carb and the pump will not self prime. No amount of pumping the pedal, cranking the starter will get it to run. I then have to gravity feed fuel into the carb to get it to start. Once it's going it seems fine. You can even disconnect the fuel line to the carb and the pump has a good flow of petrol. But from dry the pump will not prime itself.
All I can think is the spacer between the engine and the fuel pump is to thick or thin but I don't know how to check it.
I'm also thinking about fitting one of these one way valves I think it would work but it seems like I would be ignoring the bigger problem.
Any thoughts?
