Technical Fuel Tank filler neck too small for nozzle

Replaced the fuel tank on my 1972 and the filler neck is too small for the gas stations' nozzle here, I have to use a funnel during fill-ups and it's not fun, and dangerous.

An extra 5mm in diameter would allow gas nozzles to slide in. Is it possible to replace/modify the neck alone?

I'm surprised at that; in the UK the nozzles for unleaded are 21mm. I would either make or modify some sort of plastic tube/s to make an adaptor you can slide over the filling nozzle of the delivery pump which reduces to the size for your Fiat, which must be more than 21mm.

I would say if the nozzle is smaller than 21mm then how long would it take to fill a medium sized car?
Unless fuel is delivered at a much higher pressure which would surely be dangerous....

i am somewhat baffled---I have just measured the filler-neck on the fuel-tank of my 500L---the internal diameter is 41mm. If the petrol-station nozzles where you live are ALL over 40mm, the only sensible (and safe) way round the problem is to take the tank out (VERY easy) and have a SPECIALIST remove the old filler neck and weld on a larger one (poss off a local truck). Depending how good the specialist is, it may not look too pretty, but it will be safe! If the internal diameter of the filler neck on the tank is NOT 40mm I would suggest that something is not quite correct!

Me too, i couldn't comment on later cars ... N/D cars the filler opening is about 44/45mm so something is amiss somewhere....
Unless the pump end is like a LeManns style 100mm bore filler..

Just checked online and US petrol / gas pump nozzles are 21mm ?
