600 lorry drivers, farmers and bikers are taking part in 20 mph convoys blocking the major routes to the Stanlow oil refinery in Cheshire

Organisers want the government to reduce fuel duty by 24p per litre. I'd love this to happen but can't see the government doing it as motorists are paying billions in tax helping prop up the economy.

So, is this how it's going to be over the summer? Are we going to see more protests or will it fizzle out as people get annoyed with having their lives disrupted?

Agree with James, the Gov still benefit from these types of protests as you have to fill up the vehicle to travel and protest. Unfortunately the governments stance seems to be any reduction in energy costs should come from the supplier and not the Gov. Which since there also being taxed higher now, they'll be passing that onto the customer rather than cutting there profits to benefit the customer.
What doesn't help is the oil producing companies boosting prices in line with the slightest hint of trouble in middle eastern parts

To be honest I can't see the government getting too worried about this either. Yes it could potentially cause widespread disruption to services and the economy which, in turn, could lead to a loss in popularity for the coalition. However, as popularity is already low and the next election is several years away I doubt David Cameron is losing much sleep.

But fuel costs are way too high (can you tell I filled up today) and it's going to effect the spending power of the majority of the nation one way or another. Which in turn could send up back into a recession...

Why can't they just protest ironically by taking a lorry load of bicycles and blocking garage forecourts with them? It's radical and perhaps not incredibly well thought through but it's an option I'm putting forward.

from yahoo

"Hard-pressed motorists received some respite when two supermarket chains announced cuts in fuel prices.

First Morrisons said it would be reducing petrol by 1p a litre and diesel by up to 3p a litre from Tuesday.

Then Asda announced it was knocking 1p a litre off petrol and 4p off diesel - also from Tuesday.

Morrisons petrol director Mark Todd said: "Wholesale fuel prices are coming down and at Morrisons we always want to pass on savings as soon as we can."

Asda's petrol director Andy Peake promised that no one would pay more than 135.7p a litre for diesel and 134.7p for petrol at its 180 forecourts."

filled up the x this morning at the esso, 140.9p :(

unfortunately Morrison's is right across town or ad have gone there, although am no sure the x would have made it lol

I'd use Asda but their pay at pump doesn't like my Debit Mastercard. But then, the only other two petrol stations nearby - the Shell and BP garages have issues with me too. The former's always stupid busy, the pay at pump NEVER works and my points card hate's their in store scanner. The BP has one of those lovely pumps that hate's the Stilo's so clicks off if I go remotely near half press on the trigger.

Wonder if eBay sells petrol...

I remember the days back when I started driving, petrol was around 60p a litre. Ah for the heady days of the late 90's
