Our 1993 Uno 1.0ie FIRE stopped on the way to work. All plugs are sparking and dry. No fuel is spraying down the manifold. When I checked that there was fuel at the injector, the small amount that spilled down into the manifold was enough to fire up the engine for two seconds before it died. The fuel pump runs for three or four seconds when the ignition is turned on then stops; that sounds correct? I fitted a secondhand complete injector off a crashed car but the situation remains the same. The car is stuck in the carpark at work miles from home; any ideas? Thanks in anticipation.

There is a large fuel filter in the engine bay. It's at the upper left corner - at least it's on my 1.1 ieS 1993. It is not transparent as common filters. About the size of a can of 33 cl beer. Well, a bit smaller, just scale down the idea. It may be time for a replace? A cheap suggestion.

projects: air intake. (used) seats. exhaust-repair. legal tint.

It's normal to hear the pump working for a while...it pressurizes the fuel before the starter motor makes the engine rotating...this "movement" is controlled by a relais in the engine bay (atleast in my Panda 1.0 ;)).Try to replace the filter and if this doesn't sort out the problem I think it's worth taking a look at the electric fuel pump inside the tank[:0]
