I have a 2007 ducato , 3 litre, that is a base for a Knaus 700lg motorhome. We have recently had an issue whereby the fuel guage drops to zero and the engine proceeds to cut out. Today it has done it 3 times in as many minutes. This is complicated by us being currently near the Sahara Desert in Morocco. All garages nearby are of basic type and not main dealer. Any advice anyone has would be much appreciated as currently stumped.

Check connections to starter battery under LHS cab floor. The is a fuseboard with Midi, and Maxi fuses atteched tothe battery positive. All fuses should be secure. Another point to check is the connection to the engine bay fuesbox. Inside the engine bay fusebox there will be a maxi blade fuse probably green 30A which supplies the ignition switch. Check that this fuse is firmly seated. See F03 on attached extract from x250 Training Manual, which is available in the Downloads section. See black banner at top of screen..

well, checked all the connections and fuses and everything good. Had the issue occur and then the engine wouldnt start at all. Managed to find a garage with diagnostic capability and it turns out the ecu is shot. Ordered a replacement from the uk and now waiting for it to arrive in Morocco

Well the ECU arrived today, hopefully being fitted tomorrow. Took 1 day to get to Morocco and nearly 10 days to get through customs and travel to us. It cost nearly as much in customs and taxes as it did to buy it!!!

Hi did you get the issue sorted? Have tha same issue but new ecu did not sort the problem

Check items listed in post #2. Other possibilities are faulty ignition switch, or problems with the engine bay fusebox. Has the vehicle been checked for "rusty junction"? Wiring harness under front headlight can rub against tubular frame, paint wears off, frame rusts and then wears into wiring harness. Usually manifests with alarms, more likely in wet weather, but if supply wire to ECU is damaged? Another item to eliminate is the notorious engine block earth strap.

Thank you for the reply. The fuse box all seems ok. I must try the earth strap tomorrow and the wiring behind the headlamp. I have already put 4 new injectors in, loom to the injectors, ecu ,fuel pump assembly in the tank and new throttle body. It’s always a fault code for high voltage on the injectors can be any of the 4 of them. Even put a second set in to be fully sure. And can cut out a 5mph or 60mph in 100 yards or could drive for 100 miles. Will always start straight away. Fuel gauge drops and just cuts out.

do you have photo of tank sensor; is it floating type or some sensor without mechanical parts moving? Check that first. Engine must ut out if no fuel signal, because for injecition system it is dangerous to have air sucked in.

Hi it is the float type and we have changed the unit for a new one still no difference
