fuel filter problem

I keep getting a warning on my dash saying check fuel filter it keeps going on and off I have changed the filter but still having the problem it's on a 58 fiat bravo 1.9 multi-jet sport any advice please

Not sure about these specific models but the ecu may have stored a fault code and need re-setting.

There's a water sensor on the bottom of the filter and these play up. Either just disconnect it or put a new one on.
