I'm sure this has been posted a million times, but as I'm a newbie, I'm instantly forgiven.

My Multipla MPG claims to be 31. I understand that it isn't totally accurate, but from full to empty, I'm only getting 500 miles.
I'm looking at cleaning up my EGR valve at the weekend.

Is there anything else I can do to increase fuel consumption. My round trip to work and back everyday is 120 miles (all 70mph driving) so it's starting to hurt having to spend so much on fuel???

For all the agro it is to remove the EGR valve to clean it, I would just block it off and not worry about the thing again.

Yes...i blanked mine thousands of miles ago!!
I got an extra 1mpg too.
Im getting a pretty consistent 44 ish(measured brim to brim...i dont look at the computer anymore)
Also...id say if you ease of the pedal back to 60mph youll see a much better return.
Marty.

I know that this will probably be tempting fate.................but

I've had no problems with my EGR, the car's got 158k on it and if, as someone else said, I drive it carefully, 60 ish, then I can get close to 50 mpg across a full tank of diesel with predominantly big road driving.

I have also had a Forte fuel and oil treatment put in the car for the last 5 or 6 services at least and I'm sure it makes a difference in keeping the engine running clean.

Plenty of info on here if you search...

Looking at the EGR valve, to the right there is a metal flexi tube, the right hand end is held with 2 allen bolts, take these out and there should be a metal gasket.
Copy the shape of the metal gasket onto a piece of sheet steel (without cutting the hole in the middle)
And insert where the gasket came out. Blocking the flow of gasses back to the engine.

Either buy an egr blanking plate off ebay for about £4 or make one using the pipe gasket as a guide if you have some think steel..
Have to undo the 2 hex bolts on the corragated pipe to the right of the engine cover...
