tom or any 1 here is a quickie.

had my car lowered and i had a look at my left arch the other day. and noticed that the spring was rubbin on my inner arch :s and has scrtched it to bear metal. is this bad and how do i stop it.

was thinking of hitting the spot with a hammer just to move it about half a cm. and that should stop it. wat u think.

Check the springs are fitted correctly, that should not happen.

Re: Re: FTAO TOM

Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

The inner wing is structural, hitting it will weaken it.

Do you have a haynes manual?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

no i dont, my mate does. ill show u a pic when i get 1 or ill draw a primative one on paint for u
it like the size of a coke bottle top maybe a smidgin bigger, and the spring is rubbing on the inner wing as it goes up or down or something. wat do u recommend?? really cos if its an mot failer then im screwed. so help realy needed.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

Look at the pics in the haynes manual and make sure the spring is seated correctly.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

i cant see anything in my book i have here (not haynes) every thing looks sweet. just catches for un known reasons.

Is it a mot failure or not for the rubbin. cos if not i aint bothered cos i cant see it do much harm.......

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

if its taking the paint off under teh wheel arch then it will rust/rott like hell come winter, you need it sorting one way or another!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

Can't see it being an MOT failure, they won't be testing it to full travel anyway.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

ok ill take it back to holburns get them to look, but if its not that wat do i do??? i cant leave it like u say. it will rust i need to sort it, and i can only nock it. :( only need half a cm max. and then wat do i do to stop it rusting??? wat primer and paint do i use or is there special under arch paint.

Thanks Smee

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

ok thanks tom ur a star. ill still get it painted, and i hope they have fitted them wrong cos they can replace the spring if damaged

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

Its galvanised, it should not rust.

I still think they have fitted something wrong.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

as tom says i wouldn't knock it as theres a problem, alering the car isn't solving the problem. If it's rubbing a lot it will rust, it's italian! :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

alan dont say that. :( dont want it to rust on me. shes only 2 yrs old and her next birthday isnt till september, i dont want her to have early retirment.

well i dont have a clue wat to do cos if its fitted correct then i must have a defect in the arch its self thus i have no choice to nock is do i??? and I AINT PUTTING STOCK SPRING BACK ON!!!!!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: FTAO TOM

Lee ya tool, stop wettin yaself.

Didnt Gareth say its the spring?? its slightly over sized - bit wider than the OE spring?? (tho it shouldnt be) - i'll get matty to check it sat. make him take the whole shock out, check the seating of the spring and re-fit the shock.

If not i'll take a grinder to ya spring and make it slimmer ;) lol
