Every winter I have huge problem with frozen doors and the lock of my UNO.
It’s not just the looks that are frozen but also the entire opening door mechanism,
Sometimes I get inside from back luggage door and I still can’t open from inside, the handle wont move up. The entire opening mechanism is frozen, not just the key lock mechanism.
This is strange, because isn’t happening with the other car, maybe just the key lock socket will freeze.
If anybody has the same problem, and maybe has some ideas?
Antifreeze sprays won’t help.

Oh ain’t it fun claming in through the back!! Sure the parcel shelf wasn’t built for it.

Yer as above, or spray the mec inside the door with WD40.

Also do the same all the way round the rubber door seal as that would be the nest problem.. can unlock the door, but still won’t open as frozen shut.

Thanks guys on good advices (cleaning, oiling, WD40). I didn't think of it:eek:. But do you know how to dismantle the inner lid of the door, without breaking anything. Where are the screws?!

It could start a new trend, what do you think UCOF

I like the fact my name is now synonymous with silliness. :D

I was actually going to suggest going in through the sunroof, though I haven't yet worked out a way of opening it from the outside. ;)

Dejan Karlicic - its easy, you just take off the window winders, then the door liners just pull out. Give them a tug, and they should pop out easily. There's a layer of plastic in there too that is meant to stop water/ condensation getting though to the inside.

That is a sort of new style 21st century Santa Claus idea you have here.:D

LOL :) In the Readers Digest they say Laughter is the best medicine.

Seriously now, When you have sprayed CRC or WD 40 to get rid of any water, and then oiled the mechanism up so it can't freeze, because oil can't freeze, there is another thing.

Water gets into the doors because the rubber strip along the window does not and can not keep all the water out. But if you were to get some heavy plastic, and good tape like Duct tape or better, you could tape some plastic sheet over the top of the door lock mechanism so that the mechanism should stay quite dry.

Best of luck.
We'd be interested to know if this stops the problem for you

Incidentally, my locks were all frozen up this morning.
I had to break a window to get in. :D

My locks were frozen the other night when i finished work, had to get a lighter to heat up the locks, it worked in the end.

Tried WD40 in the locks yesterday and when i came out from work they opened easily.

Good tip !

Incidentally, this morning I came up with an idea for stopping all vehicles from sliding on ice.

My plan is to attach a small blowtorch just in front of each wheel which, when activated, will melt the ice before the tyre gets to it, meaning that the tyre will obtain perfect traction on the freshly uncovered (and even slightly melted) tarmac, even in the coldest weather.

I'm going to call it "The ice melting blowtorch traction increasing adapter" and I'll be on Dragon's Den next week! :D

I just finished cleaning and oiling driver door, but do not know whether this will work because now there is no temperature 10 below zero, but I think it will, given that rods and other steel stuff was wet and had corrosion on some places. Now cleaned and oiled and I think that everything will be fine.
Only this has taken me all afternoon for one door, I do not know whether I have enough enthusiasm for the other three doors.

At least I won’t have to go in through the luggage door:rolleyes:

No you won't but like Louie says, it could be fun to try and start a new trend.

Anyway, you really only need one door that opens. But if it works fine I bet you get around to doing the other front door sometime.

Merry Christmas Happy New Year, to all who celebrate this time of the year.
