Just wondered if anyone knows if Panda front springs will fit my Y10 GTie? I need to replace one asap for the mot. Every garage/ parts supplier just seems to shrug and look at me blankly when I ask for Lancia parts.

Cheers

I'm not an expert on this subject but my understanding is.......

Y10's are based on mk 1 Pandas but the suspension was softened slighty to give a more comfortable ride. Mk 2 Pandas (86 on) have a different suspension layout but I think that any significant changes only apply to the rear.

My conclusion from this is that any classic Panda front spring will physically fit your Y10 if that's all you require to get an mot, but to get some that will ideally suit your car, especially as it's a sporty version, may need further research.

As I say I'm not an expert so I hope that someone else can back up this info before you have to take action.

Cheers, Vernon.

I thought that the mk2 pandas were based on the y10 suspension setup ie with omega rear suspension, and therefore the parts may be interchangeable.

I think you are right in saying though that I may need a specific y10 spring in order to get the height/ride comfort/whatever to match properly.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this (or a box of y10 parts in their garage)?

Cheers,

Jim

I had a quick look at ePer for you. The part numbers for Panda and Y10 springs are different. Also, the construction of the springs looks different in the pictures too. Y10 springs have a smaller coil at the top. Panda springs are the same diameter throughout the length.

If you want to give me the VIN for your car I can tell you exactly what springs you need from Fiat/Lancia and post the picture as well.

Jim

I have a box of Y10 bits in my garage but no spare springs unfortunately. I have Jamex springs which are firmer and lower than standard but have not checked against panda ones.

The set up on the Y10 is very similar but not identical to the mk2 panda. The main difference is the front dampers and how they connect to the track rod ends but apart from that they are the same.

Fiat main dealers should still be able to let you know if they can get orignal Lancia items as they should have access to the lancia ePER.

If you are struggling you could also try Trevor Nicosia who is Mr Y10 on [email protected] he might have some.

Sorry can be more help

Cheers

Dave

As others have hinted, the front struts, springs and strut-to-bearing brackets on a Y10 are not interchangable with Panda ones. Rear set-up is identical to Mk2 Panda: axle, hubs, dampers, springs, etc. are the same.

There are some new coils on eBay for around £40 delivered - type "y10 springs".

The next problem is you have is that you have the GTie. All the FIRE engine models had the same front springs and these are the ones often sold. As the GTie engine weighed more, it has stronger springs. Where my knowledge is lacking is that the turbo had different springs as it was heavier up front also, but I don't know to what degree. ePer does not go back this far to check either! As it is similar weight to a GTie engine, I would say go for these turbo springs as opposed to FIRE ones. You just don't seem to get aftermarket standard springs for the GTie advertised. Once you talk about lowering springs, they seem to just say "they fit anything". Perhaps true, but they must be a compromise for the heavier engine cars.

The ones I would buy are here. Fit them both. Good luck.

Cheers for that, I've come to pretty much the same conclusion - ie turbo springs are likely to be better for the car than FIRE springs (assuming there is a difference). Interestingly my gtie has always appeared to be higher at the front than the rear - but it may just be an illusion due to the shape of the rear wheel arches.

I've emailed all the sellers on ebay (on monday morning) and had no response from any of them. Which makes me reluctant to buy them based purely on the poor level of customer service. Still, I have no toher real option at the moment so i may have to bite the bullet, especially as i need to get the car moted before christmas.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice on this,

cheers,
Jim

I often find that they don't actually have things which arn't that saught after in stock. They contact their dealer once someone has contacted them.
I found this out trying to buy simple pods for the marbella, took me five attempts to find a real seller and even then it was a website rather than ebay.

Maybe that doesn't interest you but thought I'd point it out since you mentioned poor and customer service in the same sentence.

I don't know other peoples' experience however
