I've an HLX and 'am about to put some 16.5cm speakers in the doors. Yes I have the mounts. I have been told by a local car hifi place that I can't just put new 16.5cm speakers in without replacing the tweeter as well as bass speakers are matched to the tweeters. This sounds as if they are just trying to get me to spend more money on a bass/tweeter package. They say I also need something called a cross over if I run a separate speaker and tweeter. Surely the Bravo already has this as it has a separate bass speaker and tweeter? I have the door card off and the have removed the tweeter cover on the dash as well to see how easy it is to get to the wiring and trace it back the radio which will remain the Fiat unit. The wires disappear deep behind the dash and I can't easily trace them so really don't want to disturb all this.

So to cut a long story short I just want to buy a pair of decent 16.5cm bass spekers for the doors and wire them in place of the standards. If I did this would this set up work?

What have other owners done when fitting different speakers or radios? Have you used the same wiring or if not where is it possible to route it? To be honest I don't really want all that hassle and would settle for the easiest option of just fitting new speakers in the doors and leaving the tweeters alone.

Any help much appreciated.

You can just replace the door speakers but the fiat tweeters are pretty poor. There is no real crossover in the fiat wiring either.

A good component set with crossovers and tweeters will sound much better.

thanks, but I could get some half decent door speakers and wire them in myself without changing anything else. I know this might seem like sacrilege to those really into car hifi, but can't really afford the additional expense of having some one else fit them or the worry should anything get damaged in the process......
Do car hifi places or halfords do a good job and what would be reasonable as a fitting charge for door speakers and tweeters with a cross?
