Front shocks

Front shocks

Why not pop into a decent local garage and ask them if you are really struggling?

a badly worn balljoint/wishbone would really show itself on rough surfaces, causing less grip on badly surfaced bends. However, if your driving is quite relaxed, that may not be noticed by you...

However, to answer your initial question, a garage will charge circa £70 to replace a single shocker, and the same to replace a single wishbone.

Regarding doing both shockers, it IS advised, strongly, but as a short term measure you can replace the faulty one only. The trouble is, the remaining one will have been overworked over these last few months, and is probably ready to fail too. So you may find in a month or so, that the other one needs replaced anyway.

I'm also concerned that we could be looking in completely the wrong place. You just said that dipping the clutch or accelerating affects the knocking? thats not just a simple wishbone or shocker. thats moving you along into the realms of cv joints and clutches/thrust bearings. An altogether more expensive prospect.

Given the conflicting descriptions i think its best if you take the plunge and stop in at a garage. All we can do is guess without seeing/hearing this particular problem.

i went changed two on mine i just changed the hole leg cost £15 from scrap yard

Personally, i think buying bravo shockers from a breakers is a waste of time. You've just bought a wear item, thats part worn, and is probably going to fail soon anyway. :(

Tom: No, I think we've yet to see "Hey I've just got some pads and discs from a scrapyard" :)

The more i think the more i recon it is not the strut. I am currently thinking wishbone.
Grip is fine, stearing is fine. The sound goes oner breaking and acceleration. It is just when the speed is quite steady or the cluch goes down (even to change gear).
The car feels great to drive still, apart from the sound all i can feel is slight feedback through the pedals

I had this aaaggeess ago, one quick check and found that 2 (yes, TWO) of my wheel bolts had come off. How I don't know.

Chris

Chris you might just be a genus, checked and my lock bolt has come off so i just took the wheel off. The adaptor for the alloys had split it two with the rubber inside sticking to the hub and metal washer on the wheel, I put that back together again and put the wheel on very carefully. Just took it down the road (a main road that i live on) and got it up to 60, tried the usual to get the sound and nothing. The test will be going to work, 7 mile trip there on different types of roads but you may have done it!!!!!! I would love to shake your hand for pointing out the obvious thing, but that is me looking for the complicated (why i did not check i do not know),
New lock bolts it is to secure the alloy.
Does anybody know of any good lock bolts? I have alloys with a space of 100mm, i have used bendy bolt things (forgoty the name) but can not find lock bolts like them

I'm REALLY confused. How on earth did you check your cv joint, driveshaft, ball joints, and shocker/spring without jacking it up and pulling the apropriate wheel off????

Buzz it was probably a case of jacking the car up, turning wheel to full lock and have a poke about, i have done this myself and over looked the obvious at times :(

Ian, try www.rochfordtyres.co.uk, they do mail order and have locking wobbly bolts, or failing that halfords or motorworld or any other type of modding / wheel shop :)
