The 4 shapes = 32 units
The triangles = 13x5 = 32.5 units.
The hypotenuse is slightly bent, although you can't see it. That's where the extra area comes from.

If you look at the white areas immediately above the hypotenuse in the first diagram you'll see they are slightly bigger.
The statement at the bottom about the pieces being exactly the same is bo**ocks!

i accept the hypotinuse is bent but sure that dont mean ****. its bent on the same 2 pieces in both diagrames. i reckon if u did this exactly straight u would still get the same outcome its just how it is
