Hi All,

Me and ShadowSei have been busy again, this time turning a funny idea, into something actually quite good!

I had a 6 meter rope light which we got after the Xmas sales for £11...and I said to Ant, "wouldn't it be cool to have this on my car somewhere?"...obviously we couldn't as it is for the home, and not for a 12v battery. I've always fancied having lights in my car, but don't really want to spend too much money doing it!

This is what I had:

So, Ant texts me one day, and says "I've bought you something..". Turns out that he had bought me an inverter which converts normal household plugs into 12v:

So, I think you get the idea - household plug goes into inverter, which then goes into the cigarette lighter. This means I can use this lighting, along with any other household gadgets, in my car :)

Here's some pics of what we did:

Next, I need to change the dash to blue :)

Again Ant, thank you so much for the help with this! Couldn't have done it without you!

Youll have to make your own dash lights if you want to change them to blue, theres no one in the uk that does it i think, there may be a polish supplier though

For the rev counter and the speedometer etc, pretty sure the poles have done this though, make some enquiries, but i would buy a spare rev counter and speedometer binnicle first to have a practice if you decide to do your own conversion

Yea, I've been looking into this - seems quite an annoying job! I originally thought I could literally just change the bulbs to blue - turns out it's the speedo itself that has tinted plastic which shines it's colour, and the bulb is actually white. How annoying - my corsa was as simple as changing the bulb (had white dials). I think, as you say, I will go to a scrappy and get a couple to practice on. My friend knows someone who fabricates plastic so could possibly make me a speedo, I'll have to enquire :)

What do you think of the idea of using rope light? haha!
