right i posted up about this before but didnt get any help (or it may have been on FF).

i have a mk 1 1997 bravo 1.6 sx.

Have fitted an abarth bumper and foglights, and a dash switch (with front fog switch). the front fogs do not work and the light does not illuminate when pressed on the switch. i went to a scrapyard and hot another switch yesterday incade the switch pannel was dodgy but no change. im now asuming there is a wiring fault could someone please tell me what is needed to get these fogs working?

or will i just wire up a tacky looking switch from halfords instead?

Cheers in advance.

It may be obvious but...
Check connections, bulbs, fuses, test the circuit without your s/hand switch. Do the other functions on the switch work - rear fog, demister?

will check them all when i get dressed.
yep all the other functions work on the pannel.

Firstly i dont think its that straight forward. Afterall the foglights require a relay and a fuse. Seeing your car is an SX i doubt Fiat would of put the relay and fuse in for the fogs. Money saving i guess. Try finding the relevant relay first.

Also are the fogs connect via the original wiring?

Are you sure the switch panel you have is for a MK1 and not a MK2?

Also go and snip the plugs that went into the swtiches out of a MK1 HLX/HGT and see if you have the same number of wires going into the plug to the rear of the switch panel. As the SX may not have had all the wiring fitted.

The above are all guesses. My cars a MK2 HLX so the fogs worked straight away.

MK1s and MK2s had differences with what fiat left inside them. I.e MK1 had a CD Changer cable, MK2 was left without.

So Good, Fiat Want It Back!

when i went to the scrapyard yesterday i knew there was a 1.8 hlx so i went straight to that and took the pannel off and the plugs in the back where fifferent (car was s reg so mk 2). then i found a r reg brava elx and the pannel was the same connextions as in my car. after a bit of messing around the other weekend i found that in the rear of the pannel there are 2 plugs the right 1 (behind rear window heater) has all the controls) and the left 1 (behind fog buttons) is a power subly which is turned on when the cars lights are turned on.

Ive looked in the haynes manual and it suggests i have the relevent fuse in place already, but i have no idea where the relay is meant to go. i got a handfull of relays from a mk 2 bravo but i dont think i can use any of them as in my car there are no relays behind the glove box) well from memory)

Cheers for the help im gona go have a look at the car now.

on my mk2 the wiring was there..i fitted the lights and fitted the switch and they worked straight away. No need for any relays or fuses. Have you done all the obvious things? Everything is connected properly? There is power going to the switch? The switches also vary from mk1 and mk2..different connectors and a LED in the middle of the switch. Is there a possibility that the switches are different depending on which model they are from ie SX HLX. If the light on the switch is no coming on that would suggest no power going to the switch

I've fitted a HLX bumper to my SX, however mine is a MK2. As Joske said you have the CD changer cables but not the fog light wiring cables.

Havent had chance to have a look, today was spent wiring up a bluetooth kit for my car. looks like its tomorrows project!

just incase anyone is intrested the wiring isnt there in the mk1s, but i have managed to get a current to the fog lights, just need to change the bulbs and it should all work. if it all works ill write a guide for the site.

Cal.
