I still have the Commodore 'Datasette' cassette drive that took half an hour to load one game...

Thankfully I have a C64 emulator on my PC that loads games and stuff in the blink of an eye (y)

fantastic!! I used to be into the ZX Spectrum myself, I have tried the emulator stuff to get those old games back but I could not work out what to do. Best I could do was to d/l a dos version of Chuckie Egg, which was my favourite, as annoying as they may be!!

perhaps a new topic on 'retro' computing should be started??

Still have something that uses floppy disks a 25grand Fibre optic tester

Make me laugh when I first used it and wondered what we could actually do with the results  :D

i still have one, its dodgy, but like the rest of this pc, its hanging on in there!

It does come in handy, as i use them for word docs etc, but not so much now.

Used a lot when I was in uni for reports and to carry them to and from uni as emailing on 26k dial up with hotmail restrictions, wasnt easy.

Still got about 200 of the things on the shelving behind me.

For my audio work I used to use zip drives/disks,still got a few knocking round, but the zip drive bit the dust

I got one in my machine - certain drivers, in particular RAID, need to be added via floppy during an O/S install.
Many motherboards can use USB floppy emulation, so you can use a specially formatted USB memory stick to emulate a floppy disk.

I used a floppy disk the other day for the first time in years

Had to sysprep a PC and clone its hard disk with Ghost, PC has only 2 ide channels and cables so I had to use the CD ROMs cable - making it necessary to boot off the floppy.
