Flickering headlights HELP!

Hi, recently noticed that my headlights were flickering on and off whilst driving at night, took the car to an electrical specialist who said it would be the switch. Got the work done ( near enough £250 !)
and the heads are still flickering! took it back and they had the car for 3 days. Eventually they said its the main fuse box and that they cant fix it because its linked to the immobiliser and the engine management!
Im gonna have to book it in with fiat for a diagnostic now to hopefully pinpoint exactly what it is.
Has anyone had this problem or something similar. The car is a 98 1.4 12v s
with about 40k on the clock.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'd take it back to the shop who said the fault was with the lights and demand if not all but a part refund for diagnosing the problem wrong then charging you to fix something that wasn't broke!

Do they flicker when the car is standing still or only when moving? (such as going over a bump?)

flickering light

they do it all the time even when stood still, its weird and illegal!

Re: flickering light

What about with the engine off? (ignition on obviously)

Is the flash random, regular, fast (more than once a second), slow?

Re: Re: flickering light

could there be a loose wire some where?????

the same thing was happening with my friend. but only when he was driving. after checking everything it turned out to be a loose wire. id check it with a multy meter (you never know). hope this helps buddy.

p.s i would try to get my money back (ripping the **** abit)

Re: Re: Re: flickering light

i would be well pissed off!

Get your money back, threaten them with the papers if nothing else.

Take it to a propper auto electrician. If it looks like its going to cost a fortune you could always re-wire it yourself. Go straight from battery to a switch (via a fuse) then to the lights, simple has to be the best! lol

Or P/X it, always the best way to get rid of shitty motors!

re:light's

Do the light's work via relay? if so is it ok
bad earth or the connection on the rear of the bulb's.

ps is it all the light's that go on and off or just the head light's

light

the place was a proper auto elcetrics place, they have a good rep in the north east. Its only the heads that flicker, they suggest the fuse box was dodgy so im getting an electrician to check the earths and connections. Do u think i should get a diagnostic done at fiat
Thanks for the responses

Re: light

It won't be the fuse box. It has to be on the low current side of things otherwise whatever was causing the flickering would have arced itself to death within a few minutes.

Does it flicker with the engine off?

Re: Re: light

i think them saying it's the fuse box is a bit vague! Plus they were wrong before and charged you £250. I would get your money back and go somewhere else. I don't know how easy it is to trace the light circuit, got to be worth a try first!

Flickering Headlights

Quick question, does it happen when your radio is off, the only reason i ask is my mate bought a new Head-Unit for his Bravo, and when the Audio dealer fitted it, there is a wire that gets connected so when you turn your lights on the display dims, but he (the dealer) connected the wire to the wrong side of the loom. (You guy's probably know what i mean).

The only time it would stop was when his radio was off.

Do both lights dim/flash at the same time? As in like a power drain, or do they alternate.
