Panda (Classic) Fizzle :)

Have to say I was impressed with Fizzle, rate of progress on the mods is impressive. I'm assuming the wheels will be on by the end of the week.

Thanks, had a bit of a sprint once the brakes got sorted - mainly out of guilt for being so neglectful after throwing my toys (or fluid reservoir :p) outta the pram!

Wheels will take a little longer as saving up for some decent tyres for them,

Hoping they will polish up and not need a pro refurb or else they wont be on until about October. :(

I had three people tell me "it looks better in the flesh", which I took as a complement  :D

Yes one was me - I did preface it with "don't take this the wrong way, but". Seriously I had doubts watching your progress in photo form - still not what I'd do to it, but it looks quite good in an "80's Halfords" sort of way - still taking this as a compliment I hope............. :p

Yep me too. Rough cars can easily look good in pictures, in fact I rely on it :p, but I thought Fizzle looked even better in the flesh. (y)

I strongly recommend that you use 165/60/14 tyres John, they will fit and give you no further issues.

I'm always amazed at how photogenic Pippin is: when, in the flesh, let's just say that he's not really that pristine....

I was also one of those who said how good Fizzle looks in reality... -- you should be really proud, John: you're doing a cracking job...! :worship:

Thanks - I was going to ask! A couple of other questions though:

Will I need spacers?

Also what size wheel bolts, I presume the current ones will be too short?

I'm still mulling it over whether to save up and have them pro refurbed or to get the rattle cans out?

Spacers might be needed to correct the offset. You might need longer bolts, to find out take off one of your current wheels, pop a bolt through a hole and measure how much sticks out the back. Do the same for the new wheel and note the difference - add the size of spacers (if needed) and that'll be how much longer the bolts need to be.

Correct, go to the top of the class. ;)

You certainly don't need to worry about the front wheels, they won't need spacers. I have those wheels here so can check myself then let you know if your own calculations are ok John.

Yes you have to do it too, it's good practice. :)

or just read the offset from the new wheel and compare to stock offset (someone here will know panda offset i'm sure). As the wheels are probably wider than the steelies its easier to just use an online calculator to see what the difference in inner & outer clearance is.

well i think its easier anyway, no undoing bolts = easier to me :p

John, if your going to refurb the wheels it has to be done at home with a rattle can to keep with the 'home made' theme. Pro done ones would look out of place and spoil the overall look IMHO (y).

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Decided to clean up at least one of the rims to see how bad they are.

I thought it was just dirt but actually is nasty old corrosion which wheel cleaner and elbow grease wouldn't shift.

I have a weird little drill attachment I bought years ago, it's like a wire wheel only made of long plastic strands with rough bits embedded in them.

It did bring up the wheels but in a brushed aluminium way which I didn't like.

So jumping the gun completely a rattle can of stonechip paint was at hand  :D

Anyway some pictures is worth quite a few rambling words...

As you can see the offset needs a little work ;)

I would have put them on properly but the bonnet release has been uncooperative today

You need that well-known Crouching Panda Yanking Pill*ck yoga position.... :D

Either open the driver's door or window. Grab the bonnet release with your left hand -- whilst similarly pulling up on the side of the bonnet with your right hand....

Then, when you've finally opened the bonnet (after swearing a lot, if you've just waxed it, like I had...), twiddle the rubber stops a quarter of a turn upwards (anti-clockwise, I think...), before closing....

PS: Wheels look good...! (y)

Man you know the ways!!!:worship:

Wheels look great John - love the colour - would definitely be complimented by a bedford rascal bull bar :D:slayer:

So rattle can wheel refurb is going ahead but do I :

a) buy a set of part worns (can just afford that option now)

b) buy a set of cheapest new tyres

c) save up for a while and get some branded rubber

a and b mean I can get the new rims on asap though may be compromised handling.

c is the sensible "grown up" option and makes me feel olllllllld :(

Hmmm thinking may be better to refurb the wheels when the tyres are put on just in case, I don't think stonechip paint is any match for a underpaid and overworked tyre fitter
