Evening all. My nephew has bought a stilo 1.4 and then rear doors from a stilo estate with the purpose of having me fit the electric windows to his car.
So far i have replace the metal panel which includes the motor, fitted the new door harness and replaced the driver door window switches, but they don't work from any switch.
When i was a teenager and i did this, it was easy because the main harness had all the wiring there already, all you had to do was swap out the door harness. so i thought maybe that's all what's needed here.
The old door harness has less wires going to the door plug then the new one and the pillar plug has the same amount as the new one, so it seemed my thinking was spot on but after looking on autodata there is two types of wiring, one where all the door window wiring go to one module and one where the two front doors have their own module and the rear ones have a module between them, the problem there is that the donor car doesn't appear to have that module? but it does have the two separate one up front.
any ideas on why the rear windows won't work? i have also checked that the fuses are in place, they are (strangely?)

Thanks for any help.

Not really sure where to point you on this one but as you've alluded to i think you're facing a bit of a CANBUS nightmare. I'll say I'm by no means certain by a long shot but here are my thoughts.

Older cars you're right, you simple plug stuff in, make sure it has electricity and away you go. Plus, yes; wiring harnesses typically contain all the wires you need for everything, so they only had to manufacturer one loom that suits every car, then plug in the options spec'd for that vehicle.

If you've not heard of it CANBUS (controller area network bus) is a data line that allows all the different modules in the car to talk to each other. So each item in the car is it's own CANBUS node capable of communication with the other nodes.

As you've identified the doors will have their own modules on the CANBUS network.

It might well be that you need the appropriate CANBUS modules for a 4 power window setup, possibly even including the body computer - but I cannot say that with any degree of certainty!

You'll know if you've upset the CANBUS network or not as this tends to make the odometer flash if it picks up on something abnormal across the CANBUS.

If you do end up introducing new modules you'll need the licenced software (MultiECUScan) and an appropriate cable to undertake a proxy alignment on the CANBUS network - an automated procedure - to allow them to communicate with each other.

Thanks for your reply, i have heard of canbus but didn't realise it wouldn't always let you add to the network.
My nephew retrieve the modules from the donor two front doors, the code on the passenger module was identical and the driver's one different, this i assume is because of the controls over the rear windows.
There were no modules in the rear doors and a quick look didn't reveal it anywhere else. i looked for him too, is there one for the rear do you know and more importantly where it is?
The odometer isn't flashing so i would say that i am missing something (rear module) to connect the rear windows to the network.

Thanks

Odometer doesn't always flash when proxy alignment is needed.

My car needed it after the remote fobs failed or maybe the proxy alignment was knocked out and caused my remotes to stop functioning.

When I connected MES to the body computer there was some modules showing red and EOL was red, after proxy alignment and relearning my keys remote it was showing blue and fine...

Both rear door electric windows are controlled by a single module (M63 on the diagram below). The workshop manual parts location diagram shows it as under the left rear seat, however the only diagram is for a LHD car, so it may be under the right rear seat.

Problem solved. Thanks to Davren for the location, fitted it and all windows now work. Thanks for all the replies.

It was behind the passengers seat but more to being in the centre.
